Can I just say that I love this little community so very much!! Here on Instagram and with my March families So much support and sharing and love and teamwork! Way to go everyone!! For whatever you’ve done or plan to do or don’t plan to do for that matter... it’s all awesome!! I know it’s not all positive living but I’m trying my hardest to stay in positive land as much as I can and I hope you can join me. I have posted much more often to my stories. Can I just start by sending virtual hugs... which we should do with everyone these days. Stay informed and make smart decisions for you. Welcome to the pond! I used a clear grass bath mat at the from the .99 store at the bottom of my sensory tub that has quite a unique texture. Rocks, (smooth and rough) lily pads cut from foam, thin foliage and lots of hidden frogs! First I let the artists let me know what was missing from our pond... water!! Then we used squ...eeze bottles filled with watered down liquid watercolors (I used marker juice sometimes, food coloring works too) in yellow and blue shades. Magically they made green pond water! Simple play makes for lasting memories. I had a mama let me know that later in their week her artist shouted out that blue and yellow makes green! Proud art teacher right here!! Once we had enough water I took out little tubs to build frog habitats. Bear with me while we cook up a layered masterpiece. Starting with @kwikstixpaint then adding in some neon watercolors. The water can also move the tempera paint stick colors around a bit too if you’re into that flavor. Tossed in some stickers, a dash of bears and I happened to have some mirrored paper scraps from some kaleidoscopes as a garnish. Color theory! 3 colors to make a rainbow of possibilities. Add black and white and the possibilities explode into tints, shades and tones!! I once had an artist in a camp realize that a rainbow really is a circle of colors where the pattern never ends! Her mind was blown when she noticed that the purple takes her right back to the red since it’s made with red and blue. I took out a color wheel and could see she was just as entranced with the magic as I am!! These ...test tube stands are from @michaelsstores and have been modified so they don’t tip as easily. The translucent trays are from a doctor’s office but I recently saw someone use a clear egg tray which would work great too. Don’t forget a white paper or background so you can see the true colors! We decided to keep our most favorite colors in some potion vials thanks to the tip from @artcampla By adding a bit of cotton ball the layers stay separate adding to the magic. And some fine glitter in between each layer helps to get into the galaxy vibe. This is a Big and easily extended project (getting them to look at each other’s tray and asking for help in recreating helps with memory, confidence, bonding and being a good friend, naming the colors adds for some verbal creativity... I’m looking at you marshmallow dream clouds) and I had artists request another translucent tray for more color creating at this most recent camp. You know when you set upon this eye catching project and then the artists flip it their own way because you’ve taught them so many times that ‘this is your project and you can make it your own’ and then they blow your mind and make you so very proud? All the love! We’ve been working on these wall hangings for quite a while! The background are those sheets turned walls that the artists painted. The following week we painted hearts that grew in size (reminding me so much of the Grinch... wrong holiday but that’s alright) and the banner sticks. The sheet got stamped hearts for another layer of detail. And to top it all off we painted custom wood beads to string with some pony beads. All of that impressive work makes ...for a pretty fantastic Valentine wall decoration to display year after year!! So I’ve got this perma covered cupboard (because I’m out of wall space) with an @artbarblog inspired covering. It just might be my most favorite thing in the studio! 1. It’s ever changing 2. It’s an upcycled piece of art 3. Instead of the extra paint in the pallets getting washed down the drain it gets to live here and not in the ocean... 4. It extends the project for my early finishers 5. It involves standing, crouching and reaching which is oh so good to strengthen muscles 6. Valentine gallery wall for the win! These are @postit note hearts that my artists have been decorating with markers then sticking to our cash wrap wall. An easy way to liven up the place while being easily removed. (not an ad... just think they’re awesome!) Heart packing peanuts... good for packing. Good for painting! These are from @daiso_usa a few years back... 1. If you are near a Daiso they have some nifty supplies for projects and an art studio 2. If you see these hearts let me know and I will run to get some more! The idea in general is an engaging one though... 3D object glued to a cardboard canvas. We’ve used marshmallows, wood blocks, other bits of cardboard... let the artists glue them down first to add an extra step. ... Exploring never looked so good! Created seek and find sensory bins filled with lovely Valentine treasures! We practiced using long handled spoons and chopsticks to gather up hearts, gems, pom poms and beads of many textures and sizes. Not sure what was more fun... the finding or the sorting!
