RAGBRAI XIV Carolyn Blattel-Britton 1986; Zearing IA 20.5 x 20.5 on a larger sheet; Color press. Printed by Julin Printers, Monticello IA... Carolyn Blattel-Britton was a local Iowa artist. This pictorial map was done for the XIV running of the Ragbrai Bicycle cross-country race*. The race covers over 400 mile from Mineola to Muscatine and the artist shows many of the small towns and local sights. Blattel-Britton was self-taught and as a disabled person---she was an achondroplastic dwarf (she preferred little person")she overcame many difficulties in her life. Her art is whimsical in nature. This piece appears to be one of the few pictorial maps she drew. She died in 2019 at age 64. See more

The Earliest Illustration of the Planned Development of the Mission Bay Recreational Area. Finely executed view of Mission Bay and environs, prepared in connection with the San Diego Chamber of Commerce's original plan to dredge Mission Bay for recreational purposes. Lithographed by Frye & Smith of San Diego, one of the leading printers in San Diego in the mid 20th Century, this was almost certainly the first official printed rendering of the proposed dredging and recreational development of Mission Bay, as there is no advertising or other printing on the verso, suggesting that it was not intended for commercial use or wide distribution, but instead was most likely created as an early planning tool in connection with the Chamber of Commerce's work on the development of Mission Bay
