ManterBolen, Chauncey, and Espressoism! (And a door as an easel)

ManterBolen 29.01.2021

From the artist: This photo is from a couple weeks ago; I may actually work on it in the garage this weekend. (Note the door as work surface ) We are okay. On January 18/19 there was a huge wind event here. We laid in our bed at 3am and listened to the shingles tear off and slide across the roof. I put an ottoman in front of the front door because it was being pushed inward. Anyway, the power was out for a week. Our water is connected to the power... After a few days, John ...borrowed a generator from his boss, so we had refrigerator and computer, and some tv. Also, we had a snowstorm, followed by another series of stormsthe recent atmospheric riverwhen it rained and snowed for 3 days. The super good news is John's boss recommended a roof guy, who came over at 7pm to eyeball our roof situation. One week later the insurance is all set and there are no discernible leaks. We are scheduled to have our whole roof replaced in about 2 weeks. We are first in line (believe me... there are lines). I should also mention, a lot of trees came down, some on people's houses. We really are blessed and okay. See more

ManterBolen with Chauncey on Christmas Day. From the artist: I am almost done packing up holiday decorations, and we are re-organizing the garage. So, I have not been doing much art recently. Just a shout out to say we are still here, and more art coming (Soon?) Stay Well!

Trying something a little differentI taped my canson pastel paper to a stray door in my garage, and I am drawing with colored pencilto be followed by oil pastel. It's a bit different working on a stationary piece- that is, unlike an easel which can be adjusted up and down. The potential with the door as a support, is setting up much larger pieces on paper--- we'll see!

WIP: Here is Chauncey overseeing ‘Not So Still Life #2’; you can see how the colors are starting to brighten and stand out, on the fabric design, and the pink pumpkin, as paint is slowly applied to those areas.

On this WIP 'Pumpkin Vogue' Susan plans to make the light green stripes more of a subdued olive green, and maybe enhance the shadows a little.
