Update: Heat Advisory issued August 13 at 5:40AM PDT until August 16 at 9:00PM PDT by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA Areas Affected: Los Angeles County Coast including Downtown Los Angeles * WHAT...Temperatures up to 99 expected, hottest away from the... immediate coast. * WHERE...Los Angeles County Coast including Downtown Los Angeles. * WHEN...From 11 AM Friday to 9 PM PDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk for heat-related illnesses, particularly for sensitive populations like the very young, very old, those without air conditioning, and those who engage in prolonged outdoor activities. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Low temperatures away from the immediate coast will only drop into the lower 70s. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone

Good information.... Federal Emergency Management Agency Extreme Heat Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to death. In fact, extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards.... Remember: Extreme heat can occur quickly and without warning. Older adults, children and sick or overweight individuals are at greater risk from extreme heat. Humidity increases the feeling of heat as measured by a heat index. IF YOU ARE UNDER AN EXTREME HEAT WARNING: Find air conditioning. Avoid strenuous activities. Wear light clothing. Check on family members and neighbors. Drink plenty of fluids. Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Never leave people or pets in a closed car

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay outof the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Malibu Emergency Preparedness Solutions 07.09.2020

Good news. The state is getting ready. Are you? Firefighters across California now have a new tool with which to fight wildfires a helicopter. The Fire Hawk is a state-of-the-art chopper capable of flying 150 miles per hour. It can carry 12 firefighters and 9,000 pounds. CalFire ordered 12 choppers, some of which have already been delivered. Once they are all in place, the choppers will allow firefighters to be over a fire anywhere in the state in just 20 minutes. CalFire, LA County and San Diego added some massive firefighting apparatus. These $24M Black Hawk choppers are now Fire Hawks and their ability to fight #wildfires is impressive. CalFire ordered 12.
