A message from Tami Elmatari, our Health Services Coordinator form Elk Grove Unified School District. Good morning, Attached is the schedule for the districts August immunization clinics. ... As mentioned previously, immunizations are still required through distance learning per state law. However, we are not excluding students from distance learning if they are not up-to-date with their immunizations. School nurses are still sending reminders to families who are not up-to-date, but not mentioning their student will be excluded from distance learning if they are non-compliant. We still want to strongly encourage families to be up-to-date with their immunizations as a public health safety concern and when we return to in-person learning, students must be compliant before stepping into a classroom. If students are not compliant for in-person learning, they then will be excluded from school. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your site school nurse.

This week's update focuses on Full Distance Learning's Daily Schedules, Professional Learning, Teacher Support and Student Assessment. Information regarding Chr...omebooks, Internet and more is available in the FAQ section of the EGUSD Family and Community Resources Page at www.egusd.net/covid-19 --- This is a brief summary of information from this past week. On Tuesday, the Board of Education held a public meeting and received an update on further enhancements to the District’s Full Distance Learning model. Three subjects related to distance learning were presented and discussed: Full Distance Learning (FDL) daily schedules, professional learning and teacher support and student assessment (click below to access updates to each of the subjects). With the common goal of reconnecting students to learning, District officials presented six weekly FDL schedules (review schedules by clicking below) developed in close collaboration with labor partners that ensured high quality instruction principles. The Board agreed with the District’s direction and appreciated the close attention to a structured day for synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning with established daily schedules. During the overview of professional learning and teacher support District officials explained that expectations for instructional practice throughout the District include the integration of research-based principles of high quality instruction. Additionally, past, current and ongoing professional learning was reviewed highlighting three focus areas: trauma-informed teaching and social-emotional learning, technology and instructional methods, particularly for distance learning, and educational equity and cultural responsiveness. District officials further noted that instructional coaches will also be available for teacher and learning team support. The last topic of discussion was on student assessment. District officials shared that a District-wide assessment strategy will be developed in order to accurately measure student learning based upon clearly defined learning standards. In addressing the current environment and circumstances, it was agreed that it is critical to measure where students currently perform academically and socially in relation to grade level standards as we implement instruction during the 2020-21 school year. To that end, the District expressed its commitment to providing a variety of beginning of the year assessments for teachers to use. This includes support for how to administer assessments in a distance learning environment. These assessment results will help inform instruction, understand students’ current knowledge and skills and identify students’ needs. On Wednesday, Superintendent Hoffman sent parents and guardians a Welcome Back to School message and with the start of the school year fast approaching, parents should expect to begin receiving regular information from their school principal and school site staff in preparation for the start of school. Thank you and stay safe and stay healthy, EGUSD Leadership http://www.egusd.net/covid-19-community-lette/july-24-2020/
