National #WomensHealthWeek A woman's periodontal health may be impacted by a variety of factors. PUBERTY During puberty, an increased level of sex hormones, such as progesterone and possibly estrogen, causes increased blood circulation to the gums. This may cause an increase in the gum's sensitivity and lead to a greater reaction to any irritation, including food particles and plaque. During this time, the gums may become swollen, turn red and feel tender.... MENSTRUATION Occasionally, some women experience menstruation gingivitis. Women with this condition may experience bleeding gums, bright red and swollen gums and sores on the inside of the cheek. Menstruation gingivitis typically occurs right before a woman's period and clears up once her period has started. PREGNANCY Some studies have suggested the possibility of an additional risk factor periodontal disease. Pregnant women who have periodontal disease may be more likely to have a baby that is born too early and too small. However, more research is needed to confirm how periodontal disease may affect pregnancy outcomes. MENOPAUSE AND POST-MENOPAUSE Women who are menopausal or post-menopausal may experience changes in their mouths. They may notice discomfort in the mouth, including dry mouth, pain and burning sensations in the gum tissue and altered taste, especially salty, peppery or sour. In addition, menopausal gingivostomatitis affects a small percentage of women. Gums that look dry or shiny, bleed easily and range from abnormally pale to deep red mark this condition. Most women find that estrogen supplements help to relieve these symptoms. *** Madera Family Dental Care (559) 661-4114 #MaderaDentist #DrElSayed #AhmedElSayed #LADentist #Madera #fresno #instahealth #dentistnearme #fresnoca #559dentist #maderadentist #supportlocal

Take precaution to not apply too much pressure while brushing. The toothbrush bristles should not bend or splay while brushing. If you are pressing down hard on your toothbrush, you are already exerting too much force. To apply the right amount of pressure, try holding your toothbrush with just your . Here’s how yoga benefits oral health: Yoga reduces inflammation which may reduce your risk for gum disease. It works like this: high stress levels lead to increased cortisol (the stress hormone) production which can worsen swelling in your gums. Gum swelling can increase your risk for gum disease. Yoga is proven to reduce stress levels, leading to lower inflammatory responses like swelling. Yoga reduces jaw pain by promoting better posture. Slouching causes our heads to f...all forward and out of alignment with our spine. This misalignment can affect your bite and lead to discomfort in your jaw. Chronic jaw pain is linked to temporomandibular disorder, or TMD. TMD impacts your ability to eat, talk and sleep. Yoga poses help get your body back into proper alignment. Yoga stimulates saliva which naturally washes away harmful mouth bacteria. Certain types of yoga, like vinyasa yoga, incorporate special breathing techniques which can stimulate saliva production. Saliva is important. Not only does it wash away harmful bacteria, but it also helps fight bad breath. It’s no wonder yogis have been promoting the benefits of yoga for centuries. It truly is good for your overall health, smile included. If you’re having specific oral health problems, talk to us. We can help put you on the path to your healthiest smile. & ! # *** Madera Family Dental Care (559) 661-4114 #MaderaDentist #DrElSayed #AhmedElSayed #LADentist #Madera #fresno #instahealth #dentistnearme #fresnoca #559dentist See more
What is your preference? Comment below Choosing between dental tape and floss depends on which one is best at cleaning between your teeth and which one is easy for you to use. For instance, waxed dental floss is recommended for people whose teeth are tightly packed together. Similarly, some people find it hard to handle thin strands of floss, so dental tape is a better option for them. Christmas time is near, and gifts are on our mind! One of the gift ideas is an electric toothbrush, but which one is better: electric or sonic? And what is the difference? Electric toothbrushes have brush heads that rotate at a rate of about 2,500 to 7,500 strokes per minute, compared to about 300 strokes per minutes when you brush with a manual toothbrush. Sonic toothbrushes vibrate much faster, at about 30,000 brushes per minute. Because sonic toothbrushes vibrate at a...round 10 times the rate of an electric toothbrush, a two-minute brushing session with a sonic toothbrush will give you more cleaning power. Another benefit of sonic toothbrushes is that they offer a secondary type of cleaning related to an effect called fluid dynamics. Because of the much higher rate of brush speed, sonic toothbrushes agitate the fluids in the mouth (water, saliva, and toothpaste), effectively turning them into cleaning agents that reach into crevices that the brush can’t access, like between teeth and below the gum line. In a six-month study that compared the effectiveness of Sonicare sonic toothbrushes and Oral-B electric toothbrushes in improving oral health in adult periodontitis patients, users of both toothbrush types saw improvements in their overall oral health, but the sonic toothbrush proved significantly more successful at removing plaque, reducing gingivitis, and improving tooth and gum health While both electric and sonic toothbrushes offer excellent tooth cleaning, the best toothbrush is the one you will use. Choose a toothbrush that fits your specific needs and preferences to achieve optimal dental and oral health. & ! # *** Madera Family Dental Care (559) 661-4114 https://bit.ly/2VcU35S #MaderaDentist #DrElSayed #AhmedElSayed #LADentist #Madera #fresno #instahealth #dentistnearme #fresnoca #559dentist See more
How pandemic-related stress affects our mental & dental health + Tips to heal Dental practices are seeing a rise in tooth trauma. Jaw pain, tooth sensitivity, achiness in the cheeks, and migraines can be sourced from stress. Two factors that explain tooth trauma:... 1 Inadequate (Home) work stations. Our neck and shoulder muscles lead to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which connects the skull’s jawbone. Thus, poor daily posture results in a teeth-grinding problem at night. 2 Lack of sleep.More patients are experiencing restlessness and insomnia. This causes us to clench our jaw. this tension goes straight to our teeth. Awareness is key. Your teeth shouldn’t touch in less you’re eating or chewing food. Your jaw should be relaxed, and there should be a space between your teeth when lips are closed. Be mindful - try to stop yourself from grinding your teeth when you notice yourself doing it. Set up a proper work station. When seated, your shoulders should be over your hips, and your ears should be over your shoulders. computer screen should be at eye level. Find time to stand and incorporate movement into your day. Practice self care after work. Wiggle like a fish. Relieve tension and pressure. Lie on the floor on your back, with arms extended straight above your head. Gently wiggle your arms, shoulders, hips, and feet from side to side. The goal is to decompress and elongate your spine. Take an Epsom salt bath. A 20-minute Epsom salt bath taken in the evening can help you feel more relaxed. Calm, deep breaths are proven to lower your blood pressure and clear your head. Quiet your mind. Right before bed, take 5 minutes to quiet your mind. When your body is relaxed, you’re less likely to grind your teeth at night and more likely, you’ll wake up with less tension. & ! # *** Madera Family Dental Care (559) 661-4114 https://bit.ly/2VcU35S #MaderaDentist #DrElSayed #AhmedElSayed #LADentist #Madera #fresno #instahealth #dentistnearme #fresnoca #559dentist See more
