UPDATES FROM THE FIELD: Amy Gusick (CSUSB) and Jennifer Perry (CSUCI) were given a fantastic tour of Catalina Island over the weekend. Our hosts, Desireé Reneé Martinez and Wendy Teeter along with their crew on their Pimu Catalina Island Archaeology Project shared their time and extensive knowledge of the cultural history of the island and its fascinating cultural sites. Dr. Guy Hepp, professor in the Applied Archaeology program, and Applied Archaeology graduate student Julian Acuña just arrived in Cuilapan, Oaxaca where they will be working at a Mexican government facility with Early Formative artifacts from the site of La Consentida. These studies will include lithic analysis, a paleoethnobotanical study using sonication, and photogrammetry of ceramic figurines and musical instruments. Congratulation to Julian who secured two grants for his thesis research on these artifacts!
