Tomorrow at 6 p.m. PST Virtual (Zoom) Reception & Artist Talk with #Season14 #ANewTerritory Regional Artist Iana Quesnell (@ianaquesnell). [ Get your FREE digital invitation via link in bio ] Quesnell manifests her societal questioning through detailed large-scale drawings of the spaces she inhabits. Having lived on both sides on the international San Diego-Tijuana border, her work highlights the structures in place at this site of cross-cultural exchange.... The work takes an autobiographical approach as she depicts spaces from her own life and the behaviors of people she has personally observed. She combines elements of map making with cultural markers, movement through space, and analysis of societal systems in incredible detail to take a deeper look at the world around her. Iana Quesnell (@ianaquesnell) is our incoming Regional Artist at Lux Art Institute, challenging concepts of occupying space as they relate to identity and movement. Through observations of daily life, Quesnell reveals how the physical spaces we inhabit force individuals to behave and move in specific premeditated ways. In order to gain awareness and analyze their inner workings, Quesnell exposes these actions as a part of a larger set of systemic structures present in today’...s society; implemented through architecture, division of private and public space, and notions of societal norms. On Exhibit - Starts Saturday, January 16, 2021 Closes Saturday, March 20, 2021 Virtual Reception & Artist Talk Thursday, January 14, 2021 6 p.m. PST (ZOOM) [ Get your FREE digital invitation via link in bio ]

The #TracingAcculturation exhibition by Season 14 Regional Artist @BelizIristay is on view for only a few more days in the #LindaFormoBrandesGallery. Closing this Saturday, October 31st, Tracing Acculturation represents the intersectional space of cross cultural identity, or the in-between spaces that allow for a critical look at the cultural traditions that Iristay has personally experienced in relation to religion, gender, and custom. Iristay was born in Izmir, Turkey and ...currently lives between San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. Under our Season 14 theme #ANewTerritory, Iristay creates #TurkMex influenced installations that question social and political platforms. As part of the narrative, her ceramics are created using Turkish techniques and the clay is harvested from Mexican soil - a type of merging between two of her identities. Beliz Iristay's exhibition is open to all ages and on view only until this Saturday, October 31st. Visit the exhibition at Lux Art Institute between today and Saturday between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m by booking your visit online or via the link in our bio. @ayakkisi
