"After having missed so much school, a program to ease the transition from pre-K to kindergarten is more important than ever." Lotus Bloom is grateful to partner with Oakland Unified School District's Kinder Readiness Program, as well as local family resource agencies, parents and caregivers to mend the safety net for many young children navigating Kindergarten during the pandemic. By providing playgroups for socialization and connecting families to resources and support, together we can work toward every child having a strong start in life! Thanks to New America for producing this great read and Oakland Starting Smart and Strong for sharing.

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott, and Black organizers throughout history, Lotus Bloom reflects on the meaningful day which reminds us of the courage and sacrifices of those who came before us.Lotus Bloom believes that healthy communities start with strong families, especially the Black and Brown, Indigenous and Immigrant families of the flatland neighborhoods of Oakland. On this day, 12 years ago, Lotus Bloom engaged in social service action by creating a family resource in the East Lake/San Antonio neighborhood. We cleaned walls, painted assembled furniture, and decorated our new center. Today, our acts of service look very different, however the heart behind the word remains the same, to uplift our youngest generation and the caring adults who look after them.
We are left in disbelief over the unprecedented insurrection that unfolded in the US Capitol on Wednesday, January 6th. As we face the ongoing resurfacing of institutional racism, we must collectively seek ways to heal ourselves and our community. We encourage you take care of yourself and nurturer our connection with loved ones, take time to breathe deeply, practice moments of mindfulness, incorporate gratitude, recharge in nature and seek ways to nourish your soul. We love you and we are here for you, always. Read our full letter at www.lotusbloomfamily.org/blog
