Los Gatos Lions Club 04.05.2021

Los Gatos High School 10th grade student, Jordan Chan recently competed in the Club, Zone and Region levels of the California Lions Club Multiple District 4 (MD4) Student Speakers Contest. She placed first in the Club and Zone levels. Current events in our community and around the world gave influence to the timely contest topic: Distance and Online Learning: Pros and Cons. Los Gatos English and debate teacher, Zachery Davison-Wilson, helps the students each year to part...icipate in the contest. The California Lions MD4, designed the contest to bring students from all over California the opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking, public speaking, and presentation. Ms. Chan’s speech at the Club Level was judged by, Robert Rennie, Town of Los Gatos - Government Council Vice-Mayor, Catherine C. Somers, Executive Director of the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, and Judy Peterson, Journalist. Los Gatos Lions Club President Clyde Nunes said he was impressed by the expression and creativity of Ms. Chan’s presentation, I’m so proud that our club is able to provide local high school students an opportunity to share their views and compete for cash awards and scholarships. Chairpersons of the Los Gatos Lions Club Student Speakers Contest Denise Ramón Herrera and Carol Musser would like to thank the families, teachers, coaches, administrators, and supporters of the student contestants for their dedication and interest in helping students through this process. Congratulations Jordan. ! The Los Gatos Lions take our motto WE SERVE seriously. The Student Speakers Contest is just one of the ways we support our youth and community. THANK YOU LOS GATOS LIONS CLUB. The Los Gatos Lions Club, which includes Monte Sereno residents, is a service organization which was chartered in 1946. In their 75th year, the Lions are hard at work serving our community. This winter, the Lion’s Club approached Monte Sereno City staff about volunteer opportunities in Monte Sereno. Monte Sereno City staff offered volunteer opportunities, including assisting with the Monte Sereno KCAT Living History project and removing old f...urnishings and objects from the former post office space. The Lion’s Club said "Yes!" to both opportunities without hesitation. In the photo below, pictured from left to right, are Lion’s Club members Perry Gardner, Jim Barth, Jim Goodlin, Chuck Holcomb, and Adam Herbal outside of the future Monte Sereno Community Room. Monte Sereno extends a big "Thank You!" to the Los Gatos Lion’s Club for their community service in the City of Monte Sereno. Great Job!

The Los Gatos Lions Club celebrates their 2021 Charter Anniversary year with 75 years of service. On February 23rd, 1946, over 200 members and guests attended a Charter Dinner at the then recently refurbished La Rinconada Golf and Country Club. There after the Club held weekly meetings at the Hotel Lyndon. The first president was LeRoy H. Halvorson. The current President is Lion Clyde Nunes, who is at the helm until July 1, then Lion Bob Skubis, takes the reins for the 21...-22 fiscal year. The Club has been a major contributor through out the years to the community with it's many fundraisers that support many charities and causes. The Lions also historically have committed themselves to providing "hands on" projects and improvements to the community. The Los Gatos Lions now counts about 100 members and has received numerous District 4-C6 Lions recognition for their outstanding work and service. The club continues to give generous support to those in need and to the Lions signature causes. Celebrate with us and support the Los Gatos Lions in 2021. See more
