We have seen great results with our Miboflow device. This allows us to treat dry eyes by melting the coagulated oil that is in the oil producing glands that line our eyelids. This coagulation causes blockage of the oil that is supposed to come out of the glands when we make full blinks. The treatment is comfortable and highly successful.

We have been having wonderful success with our brand new dry eye diagnostic equipment. We can now image your oil producing glands (Meibomian glands) via our new Oculus device and it’s amazing software and then treat them efficiently with our new Miboflow device.

Village Eyes Optometry Published by Jon Vogel 1 min Hello Facebook friends. We just added a new piece of equipment in our optometric practice that want to tell you about. It is called Miboflo Thermoflow and it is for treating dry eyes. Most people think that the major cause of dry eyes is not making enough tears. This is a cause of dry eyes but it only represents 20% of dry eye problems. The major cause (80%) comes from what is called evaporative dry eye. This is due to ...several factors which can include diet, a decrease in blink rate, not enough omega 3's in our system, and computer as well as cell phone usage. This device increases the flow of oil from oil glands that line our eyelid margins (called Meibomian glands). When these glands become clogged the oil cannot be released properly and without this oil in our tears the tears evaporate too quickly. We did our first in office treatments yesterday. I was supposed to get both eyes done but our first patient came a little early so only one eye was done. Later in the day and into the evening I realized that I was only aware of the dryness feeling I frequently get in the untreated eye. I really was unaware of feeling any dryness in the treated eye. There was also a pleasant side effect that I observed after treatment. The wrinkles under my eye on the treated side smoothed out. One of our associate doctors immediately commented on this. I did not expect this result and I asked the consultant that was there at the office to help us with the set up of the device and and he said that this is a side effect of the treatment. What a great side effect!!! Here is a link to a Mibo Thermoflow video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaRj0fQWL9w

Today we are having our first day demonstration of our newest piece of equipment, the Mibo Thermoflow. This device is extremely helpful in treating the most prevalent cause of dry eyes which is called evaporative dry eye. Most people think that dry eyes is due to not having enough tears. This can be true, but it only represents about 20% of dry eye issues. The major cause of dry eyes is the fact that our tears evaporate too quickly. This is caused by a variety of issues w...hich can include not blinking enough (due to computer screen or cell phone usage), certain medications, diet, and blocked oil glands (called Meibomian glands). These blocked oil glands make it very difficult for the oils that are supposed to be released from the glands when we blink to get into our tear film. This leads to a break up of our tear film and is a leading cause of dry eyes. See more

I just had a patient thank us for treating her meibomian gland dry eye issues last year. She only had one treatment at our office and she had so much success that she did not feel the need for more. I checked her meibomian glands and they were all producing oil like they are supposed to. We also started her on Omega 3's last year, after clearing her glands, and that was a big help for her too.

Welcome to Dry Eye Central. California has some of the worst dry eye conditions this time of year. Couple that with fires and smoke and you have a recipe for dry eye trouble. What should you do? If you have to be outside in these conditions make sure to use a non preserved ocular lubricant regularly. Blink more than you usually do. The same applies to indoors although the smoke issue will be less significant hopefully! If these suggestions don’t fully solve your dry eye issues, schedule a visit. We are here to help you.

We are seeing a big increase in patients having blocked oil glands lately. We think that this is due to a combination of things: 1. All the time we spend looking at pc's, smart phones, computers and flat screen TV's. 2. A corresponding drop off in our blink rate that accompanies the above. 3. Lack of omega threes in our diet. 4. Certain medications that we take that can dry us out.... To remedy this it is important to make full blinks when we are doing our close work. When we make a full blink, the eyelids not only wet the front surface of our eyes, but the muscles around our eyes help to squeeze the lids and express this oil from the oil glands. The oil then gets in our tears and functions like an oil slick on water to keep our tears from evaporating so quickly. This helps to maintain the moisture in our eyes over a longer period of time.
