Did you miss finishing your Winter Whimsy Bingo like me? Never fear, we will have new book bingo up and running in a couple weeks! In the meantime, don't forget to come ask a librarian for a book recommendation ;)
What's this? Mysterious books? We're going to be doing a deep dive into some book history in the coming months at the library, so keep a lookout. Today, though, we are just relishing that #OldBookSmell
if you walk past the information desk and hear us call out "greetings, adventurer!!!", you'll know the librarians have gotten into the Dungeons and Dragons handbooks again (psst, did you know we have these at the library: https://sccl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S118C991128 )
We are excited to announce that two lucky SCCLD Teens will be selected as panelists to interview Adib for this program! If you are a teen between the ages of 13 and 18, and reside in Santa Clara County, you are eligible to apply for the chance to be chosen. Your answers will be reviewed by SCCLD Teen Librarians. The last day to submit your application is 1/31/22, and panelists will be contacted by 2/11/22 if they have been selected. Click here to apply, and good luck! https://sccld.org//silicon-valley-reads-author-visit-with/
This exhibit for our January Art Wall has brilliant artwork created by 17 adult artists and 26 young artists from ArtCircle Studio participating in Culture, Color and Light. The adult artists that paint at ArtCircle studio are from diverse fields: engineers, psychologists, physicians, Human resources, managers, finance, technocrats, teachers to name a few. They find solace in creativity and art in the highly stressful life and work culture of Bay Area. The mediums used are pencil, acrylic and oil on canvas. Come see the pieces and find out more at the library!
If your marketing team gave you the change to play with comically large library cards, wouldn't you? Come get your own pocket-sized edition of our new card designs (we're pretty excited about them, can you tell?)
What an artistic and colorful way to start the new year! Culture, Color and Light is the title of an exhibit of work from students and instructor Deepti Nanawati of Art Circle Studio in Sunnyvale. The exhibit will hang at the library until the end of January, so come brighten your day with their amazing pieces.
New year, new cards! Come "discover" your new favorite library card design and see which customizable-card matches you best! (note: card enlarged for comedic effect, not actual size xD)

Teens: Want to feel like you are starring in your very own Hip Hop music video? Then join us and Rae studios as we practice dance skills and techniques! This class is for beginner level dancers, and will encompass teaching a full song routine. Ages 13-18 only. This virtual presentation will be held online through Zoom (video conferencing platform). The library will be sending a Zoom link the morning of the program. We suggest logging onto Zoom 5 minutes early, so that we can start on time. Additionally, please note that this program will NOT be recorded or streamed to the library's Facebook page. You can register here: https://sccl.bibliocommons.com/eve/61b53373840c3d28001490e1

Do you find yourself rolling an Investigation check when you can't find your phone? Prepping your spell list before getting out of bed in the morning? It sounds like time for you to get into Dungeons and Dragons (or, let's be real, you already are). But did you know the library has all the 5th edition DnD books you could need? Here are just two of the basics! Player's Handbook: https://sccl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/439376118 Dungeon Master's Guide: https://sccl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/439391118

Old Bear by Kevin Henkes, published by Greenwillow Books "Five Little Leaves" flannel Who Loves the Fall? by Bob Raczka, illustrated by Judy Stead, published by Albert Whitman Early Literacy Tip: When we read picture books to children, researchers have found that 95% of their attention is on the pictures. By occasionally pointing to the words in the book, you are helping them realize that it is the text we are reading, not the pictures. Pictures are wonderful, of course!
