AT The Los Angeles Tennis Club Spring time is the season for scheduling the annual doubles competitions. The Mixed Doubles Tournament has just ended. So congrats to all the finalists and winners of each division. Before the men and women’s doubles tournament starts May 7, it seemed appropriate to host a Parent-Child Doubles event on Saturday, April 30. Thirteen teams were divided into three levels to compete in a round-robin format. Each match consisted of five games tota...l and no add when the score reached deuce. Here are the results: Group I: Anne & Cooper Thompson had 6 total games. Alexandria Dionne & Colson Duncan had 3 total games. Andrea & Ben Taylor had 10 total games. The trophy went to Gareth & Michael James, who had 11 total games. This was a close contested group. Congrats to the winners and thanks to all the players. Group II: Woody & Barker Thompson finished with 5 total games and tying them with the same number were Ivan Fatovic & Cosima Lovegrove-Leak. Martin & John Miller finished with 9 total games. The trophy went to went to Peter & Chloe Steinfeld, who finished with 11 total games. Another close contested group that really seemed to enjoy the moments. Congrats! Group III: Andrew & Lili Bernstein had an unfortunate outing as Andrew strained his calf muscle, so they had an abrupt ending, winning only 4 total games. We wish Andrew a speedy recovery. Both Ed & Zoe Redlich and Laura & Hayden Shirley finished with 7 total games. Vicki & Charlie Carrington finished with 11 total games. And the trophy went to a dominate team of John Freeman & nephew Tommy Hays, winning 19 total games. Congrats! A hearty Thank you to all the teams for participating. It was a fun filled event that everyone said they enjoyed. There was a wonderful buffet set up for those who chose to indulge. If you happened to miss this event, please stay tuned for the next one coming in September!!! -Bruce Foxworth

Junior Team Tennis The winter season of junior team tennis has ended and of the five teams representing the Los Angeles Tennis Club here are the results. LATC’s three teams not qualifying for the playoffs were the Novice team coached by Adam Chemerinsky, Satellite 2 team coached by Jon Aranda, and the Open 1 team coached by Melissa Nguyen. While there was improvement in the development of most of the players, there just wasn’t the necessary wins against our opponents for te...am victories as stated by the coaches. They’ll keep trying and we wish them well in the seasons to come. However, the Satellite 1 team coached by Clay Redwood and the Open 2 team coached by Godwin Omuta once again had wonderful seasons allowing them to compete in the playoffs. Both teams ended the regular season with 4 wins and 1 loss putting each team in a semi-final match against Beverly Hills Tennis Center’s team with the winners to play a final against a strong Griffin Club team awaiting. The Satellite 1 team players Michael James, Rio and Emily Redwood, Sophie Reynolds, Chloe Steinfeld, Aiden and Alex Zarrinnam, Matt Redford, Will Hill, Archer Berenson, and Myles George-Ghobrial fought hard as their semi-final duel against Beverly Hills came down to a 5-4 defeat. It was rather exciting during the last match as Alex and Matt fought off 3 match points before finally losing their doubles match. The ending was very similar to the ending of the NCAA basketball championship game in which North Carolina tied the score only to have Villanova make a spectacular shot to seal their victoryoh, so close!!! Congrats to the team for a fine season. The Open 2 team was matched against the Beverly Hills team in a semi-final contest and LATC dominated winning 9-0 in matches. Players, Tommy Hays, Charlie Carrington, Ava Frisina, Ben Tenzer, Dillon Kneafsey, Colin Kruse, Kevin Czako, and Isabella De Mori are to be congratulated as they went on in the finals to beat the Griffin Club 7-2 in matches winning the team trophy. The Open 2 team has set a fine example of the relentless competitors as they have finished in 1st place in the Westside league on multiple occasions. Thanks to all the parents, players, and coaches for all team involved in our program. *Reminder: upcoming Junior Tennis events Deadline: April 7th sign-up for Spring Season Junior Team Tennis Season starts: Novice and Open Levels April 17 June 19 Satellite Levels April 24 June 19 Deadline: April 7th sign-up for Spring Season Parent-Child Doubles Tournament Saturday, April 30 @ 3:30-5:30pm Deadline: April 28 All sign-up sheets are in the lobby.
