***FRIENDS OF Tk Kimura PEASE READ (and my friends too ) I’m a fortunate guy! Last week I was feeling a bit overwhelmed but was lucky enough to hang out with m...y friend, TK. Wow, this woman helped me shift my perspective and I have been riding the wave of positivity ever since. TK is a relatively new friend, but I have known of her for years. She is a local legend here in Long Beach. She is an accomplished athlete, known for her giving spirit and wicked sense of humor. She is a breast cancer survivor and when she was faced with the challenge, instead of giving up, faced it head on and then went on to create a dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors to train with and win. She’s a HERO! I can’t even begin to describe all that she has done for the community. TK is now battling ALS with that same drive and spirit. As many of you know, ALS is something that has affected me personally and for the last 3 years I have chaired the annual Walk to Defeat ALS. This year, when asked who I thought should be our official ambassador for the walk, I immediately thought of TK and she has agreed. I love this woman! I’m asking, if you know TK (or even if you don’t), please drop a picture or a comment down below so that I can share at this year’s event. Being invited to participate in a panel discussion with Nathan Salazar Team DPW & Team USA , hosted by Kris Chan Cebu Pink Paddlers, was an opportunity to share experiences, challenges and the joy of being on a BCS team and once again points out how fortunate we are to be part of such an incredible sport. We are looking forward to getting back in our boats and seeing all the BCS teams in New Zealand 2022.

As a BCS team , we honor and remember all those effected by breast cancer, 24/7, 365 days a year, not just in October. There is a whisper we BC survivors have and we use many tools to quiet it down and keep it at bay. Teamwork on the boat while practicing and racing is just one of those tools. This short documentary with Nath Salazar from 2019 seemed fitting to post for BC awareness. If the world was back to normal, we would be participating in Nathan’s festival tomorrow for our end of the season ‘Friends and Family’ race. The Los Angeles County Dragon Boat Festival has cancelled the October 3, 2020 race, and will not be held this year. There is not a tentative date but we will keep all social media accounts updated. Please be safe and we'll see you all next year.
