I'm very excited to Introduce the Kevin Babington Masterclass Most of the rails you have are due to lack of ride-ability and lack of relaxation Luckily enough...- at the peak of my riding career and with one of the best horses I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting on I put a microphone on while riding and did my best to completely demystify everything that was going on underneath me. I started with the exact step-by-step flatwork process I use to get my horses relaxed, rideable, and square through their bodies. The framework I use to develop the most powerful and rideable canter that I can develop- which puts the horses into such a great balance that the distance will practically show itself every single time. But we all know that flatwork is useless to a jumper rider if you don’t carry it to the jumps. A lot of riders ride well on the flat, but when they start jumping, they get a little nervous, and all the flatwork goes out the door. You have to stay relaxed in your mind. That’s why for the next clips- I start introducing a little flatwork over fences- to show you how we use slow progressions to always make sure things are working. Again, I’ve got my microphone on while riding and am describing everything that I am feeling and thinking throughout this process. Finally- when the flatwork felt great- and it carried over well to smaller jumps- I head outside and test it over a 1.40m course. I continue describing everything I am feeling and thinking as I give this horse a confidence building school in preparation for the 1.55m competition he is going to be facing in the near future. You can see the jumps I produce- the way that I process the feedback- and the adjustments I make and the rationale as I tweak the course and my ride to produce a better and better jump and how the initial relaxation and rideability exercises I started with on the flat carry over to the jumps. As I start a new phase of my career- I am looking forward to more video coaching and continuing to de-mystify the riding secrets quickly for my students that took me so long to figure out. I am also looking forward to the challenge of getting my students better results faster- through different deliverables. I am working with a select group of students at the moment- completely online and live using facetime, zoom, and sometimes the Pixeo - and the results have been surprisingly good. They will be going first so the footing can be as pristine as possible for them. We will finish the day with our cross rails riders.
