As a reminder, the Inyo National Forest is in fire restrictions for high fire danger. Inyo National Forest taking this necessary step to ensure that firefighter...s are available to safely respond and manage incidents. 95 percent of all wildfires in California are human caused.Fire crews have been responding to several fires in the past week and red flag conditions for wind and low relative humidity are in the forecast for the next few days. Inyo Wilderness. : @louiskchan Starting on June 1, the ...Inyo National Forest will be providing wilderness permits through a virtual process. The exception to this is Mt. Whitney day and overnight permits, which are being cancelled one week in advance of the hiking start day. This exception exists due to Mt. Whitney being such a high use trail where rescues and recoveries are all-too-common (more on that in a future post). People who have been awarded a permit reservation for Mt. Whitney on the Inyo National Forest will receive a notice from recreation.gov that notifies them that their reservation has been cancelled and a refund have been issued. There is no action required from you at this time. The credit card used to make the original reservation will be refunded. While this is encouraging news, Inyo County remains highly concerned about the potential for an influx of COVID-19 cases from out of our area. We’ve been COVID-19 free for more than a month, and have accordingly been allowed to accelerate through Stage-2 reopening by the State for certain retail and services businesses (hotels and motels remain closed for now). That could all be undone if we get a surge of new cases. So please continue to do your part by (1) staying local (2) wearing a mask (3) physical distancing and (4) washing your hands and (5) continuing to respect each other. #exploreinyocounty #bestbackyard #sierranevada #mountains #inyonationalforest #wildernesspermits #outsideontheeastside #staysafe #seeyououtthere See more
