* SCHOOL CLOSURE EXTENDED THROUGH FRIDAY, APRIL 17 * The Butte County Office of Education just announced that all Butte County schools (including Chico Unified School District) will be closed through Friday, April 17. We want our families to be the first to know so you can begin to plan for the extended closure. Chico Unified administration has been using spring break to prepare contingency plans in the event of an announcement such as this. We will begin to implement our pla...n to provide chromebook distribution sites for families in need, partnerships to help provide family services (such as free internet access), an online resource center for student learning and engagement and continued nutrition services opportunities for the youth in our community. We know there will be questions, and we will work to provide information to our families and staff as quickly as possible. I cannot thank you enough for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this national crisis. Education truly takes a community, and I have no doubt that we will all rise to the challenge as we have done so many times through these last few years. The well-being of our students is always our top priority as we plan for the next four weeks. I'm raising money to benefit Loma Vista preschool children who need communication devices and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.... Loma Vista students have access to augmentative alternative communication at school to communicate throughout their school day. Many of these students would benefit from having communication devices at home to communicate with their families and out in the community. Communication is a basic need of all children and helps to decrease problem behaviors and improve relationships. Your donation will go directly to these children and will supply them with communication devices that they can use at home and in the community. Devices will be distributed to nonverbal children whose families show financial need and priority will be given to older preschool children who will be going to kindergarten soon. ***We are also accepting donations of iPads, iPad cases with straps, Chat Wrap cases with external speakers, and communication apps. I had to share this wonderful story. Here is a message from Benjamin's mom: "This is Benjamin in Disneyland. He was on the CARS ride. If you look in his hand you will see his Cars ride pec. He picked out his own rides and held his little ruler on every single one! So cute." I LOVE this picture exchange communication being taken all over to help our kiddos better communicate with others. So super sweet!!!!!! Great work parents :)
