Announcement from the LMU Family of Schools Facing the Challenges of COVID-19: Despite the challenges of COVID-19 school closures combined with the enforcement of state and national Social Distancing guidelines, the LMU Family of Schools continues to move forward. Administrators, faculty and staff members remain committed to supporting students as they work hard to ensure there is a continuity of instruction as they establish virtual classrooms and implement a variety of d...istance learning strategies. Innovation abounds as educators are learning to more effectively use ZOOM and other online tools to connect with students and families. At Loyola Village Elementary, Dr. Smith has a program where each Monday she hosts online book readings with her students. These sessions establish a sense of normalcy and allow (her) to maintain a direct connection with (her) students. Principal Murphy and her team at WISH Middle School make sure that students are able to move forward with extra-curricular activities as they engage in virtual field-trips and online meetings of after -school clubs. Additionally, several teachers at Katherine Johnson STEM Academy have also found new ways to engage students and families by providing daily video updates through the Schoology platform used by LAUSD. These are just a few examples of the student-centered efforts taking place across the network of our LMU Family of Schools. Comet Culture Day showcased the strong Westchester High School / Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets alumni network back at their old stomping grounds! It was a great event that allowed the alumni to connect with current students and talk about how their time in high school affected where they are today. Thank you to every former Comet who participated!
