Greetings Club Members, Spring is coming and so it seems like a good cleaning is in order for our clubhouse. For both days on the weekend of May 1st and 2nd, we are hosting a volunteer event to clean and paint the club house. There's lots of work to be done and lot's of opportunities to help. Lunch will be provided. Please click on the link below to sign up for the volunteer weekend. Notice when you are signing that we need people to bring tools and materials if you can. ... Please let us know what you can bring. Thanks for all you support! Hope to see you there! It's going to be fun and rewarding!

We're in the early stages of planning a volunteer project to spruce up the club house. At this time we're just looking for volunteers with interior space design skills to develop a plan for the club house interior layout. You can just respond here. Thanks!

The previous Go Fund Me left off Scott, Jennifer Dawson and Michael Bucher who runs all the junior programs . All of them were greatly affected by the closing of the club for three months, so we're hoping to equalize things by doing this. Thanks so much for your help. On Monday, July 20th we will be starting our new operating hours (9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday & 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Saturday-Sunday). We are looking forward to the extended hours. We have received a couple of inquiries regarding the status of the hitting wall. We are pleased to announce, as of today (Thursday, July 16th) the hitting wall is now open. The hitting wall is controlled by the La Jolla Recreation Center. The La Jolla Recreation was having issues rega...rding a basketball resurfacing project. The La Jolla Recreation Center was required to keep the hitting wall closed until the basketball resurfacing project was completed. The basketball resurfacing project took much longer than expected, but is now complete. We sincerely apologize for the delayed opening. Stay safe, be strong, and together we will get through these very challenging times.

The board president Bob Brobst continues to be in touch with the city regarding opening the backboard. Opening the backboard is allowed under the rules that we have now. The city has claimed (and he know it’s true) that they didn’t accept the re-paving of the basketball area. Three weeks ago they told him that it would be redone that week. Same two weeks ago. Then it was done last week, so he asked them to take down the fence at least in front of our side of the backboard. They asked him to be patient, and they would take the fence down soon.

The tennis clinics are back! But of course, there have to be some changes made... at least for the time being. Ty's morning clinic will be divided into two sessions: 8:30 - 9:30 and 9:30 - 10:30. The clinics are limited to THREE people until further notice. Because of the limited number of people, Ty's fee has temporarily increased to $35 per person. Also, you must book clinic in advance. Ty can be reached at (858)775-5037.

La Jolla Tennis Club Members, You may be aware San Diego private tennis clubs can now be open. Unfortunately, the San Diego public tennis courts have not yet been given approval for the same luxury. There is an upcoming San Diego County board of supervisors meeting. During this meeting the board of supervisors will be addressing the options for opening the public tennis clubs in San Diego. The board of supervisors welcomes community input. If you would like to share... your thoughts or comments with the board of supervisors, you can do so by submitting an ecomment. To submit an ecomment go to: https://sdcounty.granicusideas.com//5ebc4a9ef2b6709ddd0007 For your comment to be part of the upcoming meeting, it must be received by 7:00. The more comments the board of supervisors receive, the more impact the comments will have on their ultimate decision. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay safe, be strong, love each other, and together we will get through these very challenging times. Scott Farr Manager, La Jolla Tennis Club

Just a quick update. The latest we are hearing is that the city is doing phased openings of city tennis courts. Tennis board president Bob Brobst has been pinging the city every day so they don't forget about us and has even been in contact directly with Barbara Bry. We're working on it!!!

La Jolla Tennis Club Members, The La Jolla Tennis Club operates 9 public tennis courts at the control and direction of the City of San Diego. As our courts are public, we must follow the City’s mandates and guidelines. The City first made us close the courts (i.e lock the courts and put up closedsignage). The City then put up barricades restricting access the the courts and grounds. Last week the City made us take down the nets as people were apparently still pla...ying. Our legal agreement to operate is with the City of San Diego. We cannot open the courts until the City gives us permission to do so. At this point we can only speculate as to when the courts will be open. Rest assured as soon as we have approval from the City, we will install the nets, unlock the gates, and send an email informing you of any updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay safe, be strong, love each other, and together we will get through these very challenging times. Scott Farr, Manager La Jolla Tennis Club

One of our members has started an initiative... Dear Members of the La Jolla Tennis Club, For the past month our nation has been in crisis due to the Covid-19 virus. A... few weeks ago, this pandemic hit home with the city-wide closure of all public facilities, beaches, and rec centers. Specifically, the closure of city parks directly effected our beloved tennis club, its members, and, more specifically, our coaches. None of the tennis instructors have reached out to me or are aware that I set up a GoFundMe page for them. This is something I felt I needed to do to help our coaches. In 2012 the tennis club supported me in my time of crisis and now I feel it’s time for me to give back. Our club feels more like a family than a club. Due to the closure our coaches are unable to teach and provide the adult clinics that we all enjoy. As a result, the coaches are economically impacted. With that said, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help fund relief for our tennis instructors (click here to go to the page). For nearly three decades I have served our city as a firefighter and for the past 13 years helped the community of La Jolla. It has been an honor serving others. Now I am asking for help with our tennis coaches. I know times are difficult and anxiety is high, but if you can help please visit my GoFundMe page. Give what you can, and if not able to give, prayers and positive thoughts are welcome. Sincerely, Arsenio RC Ortanez https://www.gofundme.com/f/4ykve-ljtc-adult-clinics-teachin
