However for those situations that do present themselves as a safe opportunity, education is key! Below are important tips to teach your kids on dog greeting manners: 1. Always ask before petting a dog 2. Walk, don't run up to a dog. 3. Don't approach or pet a dog that is either over-excited or fearful. 4. Allow plenty of personal space between you and the dog. 5. This is a big one for kids! Never hug or kiss a dog, or put your face in their face. 6. Start with giving a scratch under the chin. This is the best and safest place for both parties. Growing up as a little girl I always dreamt of being able to work with dogs, as they were such an important part of my life and what I loved, even back then. ( BTW I am the tall one in the middle between my two amazing sisters) After school I used to walk and train my neighbors dogs just for the opportunity to spend time with them, dogs having always been who I considered to be my Best Friends. ... My sisters and I would do structured pack walks together wayyyyy before it even was a thing. I enjoyed how each dog taught me something new and special about them and in turn, about myself, as we learned to understand one another’s worlds. Those wonderful bonds and relationships of connection formed never left my soul! Despite twists and turns, Life always has a way of leading us back to our true passions, resurrecting in us the inspiration to pursue our hearts purpose. OMG Happy New Year!! I believe in finding the magic in every moment and the many blessings that are hidden inside every single one of them, no matter if the moments are glorious or a challenge. 2020 brought blessings in the form of lessons & experiences learned and 2021 will no doubt bring more blessings and lessons in her own unique way. ... Want to really tire your dog out? Work them BOTH mentally and physically. Physical exercise is a daily necessary component for a dogs fulfillment but so is learning, thinking and being mentally challenged. Depending on the breed, (any working breed is a great example) you can provide physical outlets for energy all day long and guess what....your dog will still be rearing to go. ... By adding in mental exercise to exercise sessions which can be everything from having your dog practice structured obedience on the walk ( sits, downs, heel, duration, impulse control et ) etc or learning and practicing new commands and skill skill sets, this will work their mind and assist in REALLY draining their energy. Ever study for a test and have to go take a nap afterwards? Then You know that feeling then when your mind is being worked!!
