Revisited this birth story recently when the midwife asked me to share some photos with her for her website. This was the second birth I documented for this sweet family. Both at home. Both babies born on the floor. Today is Birth Photography Day I am grateful for the path and circumstances that led me to begin birth photography. The last six and a half years has impacted my life in such profound ways. Birth story share! Bre and Rob's birth story is one for the record books and probably one of the fastest I've witnessed. On the morning of August 22 at 10:16 am the birth team received a text that Bre's labor had started. Rob sent us a photo of her on her ball on hands and knees. The midwife @birthingblyssmidwifery told her to eat and relax and maybe take a walk later and to keep in touch. At 11:23 the message read "water broke". They checked to confirm it was amniotic fluid......and it was. They let us know at 11:34 am. At 11:51 Rob texted and said "feels like she needs to push". I was quickly gathering my clothes, gear etc. to head that way. Then all of the sudden at 11:57 am the text read "baby is here" which was accompanied by a photo of Bre in the bathtub and baby emerging. Luckily, @iamhaizehawkerosen made it to assist with baby being born in the tub and the transition to the bed. Of course, this was a precipitous birth and very rare for a first time mom especially. My first feeling and reaction as her birth photographer and part of the team is disappointment to have missed being there to capture that moment and all leading up to it. Nevertheless, I headed that way to document all the beautiful afters of birth. When I arrived she was birthing the placenta and being supported by Rob, with their beloved dog, Foxy, nearby. The cord burning ceremony was sacred and sweet. Birth never ceases to amaze and surprise. I am honored to have documented the unique and inspiring birth of their little boy, Hunter and to be a part of the birth team. Two years ago, I was the doula and birth photographer for this little guy's mom and dad for the birth of his big sister. Chelsea, the mom, messaged me this summer and told me they would love to do a newborn session with me. When I arrived, I walked into their front door and to my surprise was another sweet little boy, about the same age as their oldest daughter, Everly. I was surprised to learn they had fostered him and then recently officially adopted him into their family. ...They began fostering him when Everly was an infant. I was happy to learn their family had grown exponentially in the two years since I had last visited.
