Airbnb said Monday that it has raised $1 billion in debt and equity from private equity firms Silver Lake and Sixth Street Partners, even as the online rental marketplace has seen its business plummet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 prompted governments throughout the world to issue stay-at-home orders, triggering a wave of cancellations in the travel and hospitality industries. Airbnb emphasized that the funds would support its ongoing work to invest over the long term, a statement aimed at couching this raise as strategic and not a bailout in troubled times.

One business that I would like to congratulate on their quick pivot and following rule #10 is Eight Oaks Distillery in New Tripoli, Pennsylvania. They were facing some tough times and their business was in trouble. They saw an opportunity to make some quick changes, create a new product that had high demand (hand sanitizer), and now they have a backlog of orders and are running non-stop to fulfill these orders. Do your research when going into any deal. When buying into a franchise you’re buying the system. You want to see success in other units in place. I could see this coming since they had so many franchisees waiting for years to open units. If they had a real system in place it wouldn’t take years to find a Location and build it out. That was a huge red flag.

They just keep growing and growing.
