People don’t often think of seeing their acupuncturist when it comes to mental health, but the truth is acupuncture can be incredibly helpful for our personal growth, navigating big changes and healing from trauma Emotions aren’t called feelings for nothing, they are quite literally feeling sensations in our bodies. So it’s not so far fetched that acupuncture can help us with our emotional processing - we have to take the body along with journey of the mind and spir...it! As an acupuncturist one of the best ways to help patients with emotional healing isn’t with point prescriptions or complex herbal formulas but by simply being able to hold space and guide to greater self awareness. It’s simple but not easy. The element cycles are one of Dr Kim’s favorite ways of helping her patients have more understanding of their emotional landscape and reactions. The generating cycle tells us about how the emotions influence and create each other. So when one seems excess or non-existent we might look to this cycle to help understand how it came to be this way. #theintegrativehealinginstitute #acupuncture #emotions #healing #traumahealing #narcissist #elements #elementcycle #chinesemedicine #asianmedicine #herbalmedicine #education #fiveelements #emotionalintelligence #emotionalhealth #emotionalwellness See more

LM on importance of dream and practice... "So for instance, if I want to learn about something, I can google it or I can look at the local newspaper and see when the next expert’s coming to town, I can do research. The limits of that research have to do with who’s coming to Berkeley, and how much time I can spend googling, how much money and energy I have etcetera. It’s sometimes embarrassing how limiting that is. So the daytime life, the daytime part of life, have a certa...in kind of limitation. Sometimes galling limitation, sometimes wonderful, we love it. However the possibilities of research while you’re asleep are actually quite different, in divination of dream you can research anything you want; past, present, future, other realms. There’s actually no limitation. And in that process, what the whole cycle of teaching is expecting, is that eventually the day and the night become one. So just in the same way you have an appetite during the day for talking to your friends, and reading a book, and eating lunch etcetera, once the divination dreaming starts to be clear, then you recognise your appetite doesn’t stop, that twenty-four-seven you are actually cultivating the way. You’re actually participating in a path. Once you understand the totality of that path, teachers and teachings become somewhat moot. Join us for an intensive 10 month series - Dao of the Night - Liu Ming's Dream Series with Erin Langley LAc @ancestralacupuncture and Clarissa Gunawan @crescent_daughter . I don’t think I ever learned in school about the virtues of the elements. Every element has emotional states associated, but they also have virtues. Our virtues are seen and brought forward when we are in a state of balance and alignment. As we evolve and grow we start to embody these virtues more and more and we can move through our emotions more easily without becoming them. Anger is the predominant emotion associated with the wood element however another aspect of the wood element emotions is repressed emotion. When we were repressing our emotions we are pushing them down and holding them in so that we don’t have to fully feel them, many times this is a habit that we’ve created throughout our life, and can be a really handy coping mechanism. The problem with repressing emotion in particular with repressing anger is that our body holds onto... it and it can cause all kinds of issues physically and mentally including decreasing her immune system, increasing muscle tension, increasing blood pressure and many other symptoms. I think of repressing emotion like a tea kettle that has no release spout if we turn it on it’s going to start jumping around the stove but there’s nowhere for the water to release and this is the creation of anxiety along the generating cycle. Shame is not an emotion that we talk about in Chinese medicine it doesn’t come up in the ancient Chinese texts whatsoever. With the connection of the Yi spirit and the earth element I’ve seen that the emotion of shame is actually related to the earth element. Issues in the earth element and Yi spirit disturbance often comes with patterns of people pleasing and codependency which are inextricably linked with the emotion of shame. When we are using our resources outside of ...ourselves to control how other people view us we often are doing this from a place of shame or creates shame in the process. It’s no surprise that when we feel shame, grief can be associated with that. Shame is often where we are turning away from ourselves, feeling guilt about ourselves and ultimately experiencing some type of abandonment of the self and when we do this there’s grief associated, it’s in this way that earth creates metal shame creates grief. Along the generating cycle in Chinese medicine the element of metal creates the element of water , emotionally these relate to and respectively. We can look at how metal when immersed in water can change the mineral content of the water. In a healthy system making it more nutritious for us but in an unhealthy system it can make this water quite toxic and undigestible. When we go through a period of deep grief it makes sense to want to avoid that experie...nce again and in this way is how this generating cycle can create fear. We will create fear either by trying to avoid the same situation again or simply by tapping into fear that is already present and it can expand because of this grief. Isn’t it always a curious thing when you wake up at the same time most nights? In Chinese Medicine our Body Clock can help decode some of the reasons why this might be happening! 3-5am is Lung time and the Lungs have a strong association with #grief and #sadness I often hear patients and friends talk about waking at this time while going through big periods of change or during stages of grief like after a loved one passing. It’s important to feel into the grief, let it know y...ou are listening, this helps us move through it instead of hold it. Pain and asthma are also associated with the Lungs and are another way we can look more deeply inward. Do you wake at this time? Bells Palsy and acupuncture! Don’t delay care, come in ASAP, also steer clear of electro acupuncture or TENS in the acute phases of Bells Palsy, EVERY chronic case I’ve seen had electricity applied in acute phase, while it’s not guaranteed to cause a chronic case it’s also not worth the risk! Acupuncture alone is effective enough! Acupuncture can help you heal faster and more completely! #acupuncture #acupunctureworks #bellspalsy #facialparalysis #chinesemedicine #electroacupuncture #healing #paralysis
