Look at these 2 beautiful Angels I have in my life. The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree Welcome #Autumn I keep about dozen irons in the fire, it’s how I’m wired, wear a lot of hats and I do a lot of things for work. But ultimately, I only have (1) One job. That is to take care of my children & be a good father, a good parent. But what do those two things really mean and how do we balance them? As most of us are working parents these days, (Jackie and I both have o...ur own businesses) or for some even harder, single working parents you know what I’m talking about. It can be a difficult struggle, a conflict within ourselves but I also see it as our greatest motivation and strongest tool for success. Sometimes it feels like we are running on empty but I thank God for blessing me the opportunity of fatherhood in this life, along with the patience, peace & strength for the journey. Taking care of my children means I have to be away from them working most days but being a good father is about loving them unconditionally with all my heart and being present with them as much as possible. Teaching them right from wrong, lessons learned, but also learning from them, listening to their thoughts, perspectives emotions and as they grow opinions. Sometimes it can feel like so much and we worry if we are getting it all right or just messing up. My Dad, Joseph Schaller, my hero RIP, 12 years today I got the call. Heart attack. And he was gone. He gave his life as a service to others. 45 years (still Longer than I’ve been alive) for the City and citizens of Los Angels, his city, our home. He was the oldest active Firefighter when he retired, because he loved what he did. saving so many lives including some of his partners. Pops You taught me so much, not always in words but in actions. Wisdom beyond my years and bey...ond most peoples life’s, I think this was a wisdom learned by things his eyes and heart witnessed. So much I didn’t understand as a boy but grow to reflect on as a man. Throughout his career he had worked ever station in LA, worked through both the 60’s and Rodney King LA riots but he spent the last 20+ years as a scuba diver at station #110 fire fire boat #5 in LA harbor. Even to this day when I think of courage, I think of my dad diving into the cold dark murky dirty pacific waters in the middle of the night to try and save..or find a car that went off a bridge or some other tragedies I won’t describe here. But of all things becoming a grandpa was his greatest joy, as it breaks my heart that he’s not here to be with our family and able to meet his newest granddaughter beautiful Jewel Leah, or see how they have grown up or my nephew Jojo (my sister was pregnant when my dad passed and named him after his grandpa) I know God needed him in heaven for a bigger purpose and his time here had to end But I believe he’s a guardian angel for all of them. Today, I want to especially thank all the Firefighters, active, retired, The families of those that we’ve lost, all of our military service men and women & families, all of our police & first responders, and all of the Dr’s, nurses, EMT’s out there sacrificing themselves for others everyday.
