When I first started the program, I didn’t quite buy into the benefits of curiosity. Today I felt a wave of panic and instead of immediate dread or fear, my automatic response was, ‘Hmm, that’s interesting.’ That took the wind right out of its sails! I wasn’t just saying it was interesting, I actually felt it. I was so thrilled.... Thoughts can create stress. Stress can create physical malaise. Thoughts and feelings can create a habit. The habit programs our body but we can change the circuits to change the habit. We can change the habit of pain and suffering to the habit of joy and inspiration. #program #thoughts #stress #feelings #joy #inspiration #create #change #painandsuffering #thought #malaise #habit #parenting #socialemotionalcommunication #learningchallenges #emotionalconnection #psychology #anxiety #lindaboverman

We can teach our children how to think deeply by talking about our thoughts as well as showing the effort we use to think deeply. #children #talk #thoughts #showing #thinkdeeply #teachourchildren #kiddos #effort #teach #thought #think

Pre-pandemic, our children were experiencing a mental health crisis in terms of anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. During the pandemic, the reported cases have more than doubled. Being truly present for them, seeing them, and listening to them deeply may help them the most. #mentalhealth #mentalillness #wellbeing #children #anxiety #crisis #term #depression #problems #case #experience #double #listen #help #behavioralproblems #healthcrisis #mentalhealthcrisis #parenting #socialemotionalcommunication #learningchallenges #emotionalconnection #psychology #anxiety #lindaboverman

Anxiety is a Feeling of worry, nervousness or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. That just means we’re frightened of uncertainty. How helpful is thinking like that? #anxiety #outcome #thinkers #parenting #socialemotionalcommunication #learningchallenges #emotionalconnection #psychology #anxiety #lindaboverman

Be empty of worrying. Think of who created thought. Why do you stay in prison When the door is wide open? Move outside the tangle of fear-thinking.... This has been truly life-altering. When I had a full-blown panic attack, looking inside made it just melt away. I was looking at what I was feeling instead of obsessing over why I was feeling it. Unknown from Unwinding Anxiety Try feeling your somatic sensations deeply and persistently. We get to know our children best by playing with them. We can take the lead by suggesting a game, a bike ride, or a hike. But more often, on a daily basis, it’s joining in their play. Legos, video games, arts and crafts. They may not always act like they care whether we are there, but they want nothing more than one-on-one time with us.

Children often say respect is being kind. That sounds good, but typically they don’t know what that really means. Respect includes following directions, doing what you’re asked to do, cooperating, not arguing, using a friendly tone, being polite, and using proper etiquette. It’s up to us to teach this and model this. If our children don’t learn how to respect everyonekids and adults they will be remembered for the opposite.

Never lose hope. When we lose hope we’re going to depression, sadness, fear, and anxiety. To get ready to thrive it’s helpful to have a sense of control, values, and a community. Become friends with your anxiety. Don’t be afraid of it. It is something you donot who you are.

Sometimes we need to avoid talking to our child as if it’s our way or the highway. Doing this can limit our child’s opportunities to develop their own problem-solving ability. Mistakes will occur, but we often benefit more from failure than success.

When you judge yourself for needing help, you judge those you are helping. When you attach value to giving help, you attach value to needing help. To forgive is not just to be altruistic. It is the best form of self-interest. It is also a process that does not exclude hatred and anger. These emotions are all part of being human. You should never hate yourself for hating others who do terrible things: the depth of your love is shown by the extent of your anger. Arch Bishop Tutu Let’s practice forgiveness with ourselves and our children.
