Real life story from a fellow State Farm agent here in the metroplex... Last October and potential customer reached out to me wanting a homeowners quote for the... new house they were buying. Their lender told them your homeowners premium should be about $75 a month On a 350k house built in the 90s. I came in at $115 a month and they said no way, they had a quote for a Farmers Smart plan for $96 a month. I tried explaining to them a few of the big differences. One being the fact that Farmers was not giving them a water damage endorsement. She didn’t care. Because her LENDER told her not to pay that much for INSURANCE The customer called me this afternoon, the bottom of their hot water heater rusted out and pumped gallons and gallons of water into their house while they were gone to the lake over the weekend. Estimated damages inside the house are over 6 figures, not to include their contents. Her farmers agent told her she wasn’t covered for the loss and it would be all out of pocket. $19 more dollars a month could have kept them from losing their house. They don’t have 6 figures to put into the repairs. I’m a penny pincher. Every dollar counts. But, on some things, you get what you pay for. Our house is our biggest asset (typically) let’s make sure that it’s properly protected!
