I recently went down the rabbit hole of folklore and fell deeply in love with the story of the mastic trees on the island of Chios in Greece. Not only does the story resonate with me for my Greek heritage, but the magic of mastiha, otherwise known as mastic resin, has provided my body and soul with endless healing properties. A wise woman once told me some people come into your life for a season, and some are meant to last a lifetime. 2020, it’s been real, but you are a season and this world is ready to move on.

The holidays always remind me of my Nana. She was a Greek goddess, a vocal free spirit, and the most beautiful human I ever knew. I will never forget the day she brought me my first skincare routine. We sat on my couch and she told me all about the importance of consistency and good products to keep my skin healthy. I was eleven. Lilacs were here favorite flower. My business is in honor of her life and legacy. She was my first hero and the reason I’m living my dream career.... April 13, 2020 marks O N E year since I opened the door to Lilac & Dahlia and kissed maternity leave goodbye. It feels bittersweet to celebrate a milestone while the world weeps of loss behind closed doors, but here I am remaining optimist by searching for the little things to celebrate. I love my community and the wave of support that has carried my family through this pandemic. When we moved to Pacific Grove I had no friends, no sense of community, and no idea what I was getting myself into. How quickly things changed. I am so grateful for this little coastal nook of paradise and the strong sense of community it holds. Looking forward to opening the door once again when there is more cause to celebrate, whenever that may be.

Is there a word to describe the emotional reference to word vomit? I feel sad and frustrated and angry and worried, yet hopeful and optimistic because deep down, I am an optimist and I believe in the power of community. The powerful force behind solidarity in times of uncertainty is what keeps my optimistic heart full, and that’s exactly what we are witnessing here on the Monterey Peninsula. Unfortunately, part of solidarity in our community means closing our doors to prevent... exposure to our beloved residents, whether young or old. As most of you have said, with a very heavy heart I have made the decision to close my doors for the time being. As a mother filled with empathy I feel this is the best decision for the safety of my family, but also for my clients and the small community where we live. As we embrace the idea of home isolation we will aim to keep busy with art projects, Disney+, and lots of baking! My hope is to open my doors again in two weeks More on that later.. in the meantime, may we all form an invisible bond and breathe deeply knowing this too shall pass.

This is Stacey, and if you know her you’ve most likely experienced a wild ride with her. She is also an extraordinary body worker. . We met in 2011 when @insymmetryspa opened its doors in the new Mission Creek location of SF. After years abroad in Australia she returned to the west coast and was just a handful of years into her career as a body worker, but her technique said it all. She was destined to find great success from the beginning. Shortly after we began working together she continued her journey and opened a storefront massage studio in the picturesque town of Pacifica, just south of San Francisco. Her background in design gave her a knack for creating beautiful space, and let me tell you, her space is . @pacificamassageandwellness sits quaintly and peacefully just blocks from the Pacific Ocean and has all the boxes checked off for the perfect. massage. studio. Tarren. This lady means the world to me, so where do I even begin? We’ve been friends forever, vegetarians forever, and skincare enthusiasts forever. Our fifth grade teacher introduced us after my family uprooted my life and moved us to a new town. I had no friends and no idea how to exist without them. Tarren was this warm hearted, kindred spirit who invited me into her world and we’ve been laughing our way through life ever since. . The parallels Tarren and I have shared in... our lives are what make me truly believe in serendipity. Her passion for skincare and wellness have been momentous in her rapid growth and success as an esthetician. I remember spot treating pimples with toothpaste in her bathroom as kids, and now here we are 25 years later treating acne as professionals in the same career. . What I love most about sharing a profession with Tarren is the difference in our approach to treating skin. She has taught me more than any instructor could possibly begin to tackle in the 600 hours of training required. Her passion for knowledge has led her to herbal school, product development, and even landed her a book contract! Her mind is an encyclopedia of herbs and remedies, something she has helped me develop a passion for in recent months, which has encouraged me to dive down the rabbit hole of herbal books and nutrition. She is constantly sharing ideas and information with the world, and for this I am in complete awe. She somehow finds the time to write the most thoughtful, educational Instagram posts (you can follow her for all things skincare @goldensealskincare ) on an almost daily basis, something I can’t begin to comprehend doing. . Then there’s her treatment approach. It’s like a journey through your senses. The layers of nourishing masks and scrubs and massage ! I live for her facials, seriously. If she wasn’t fully booked and so far away I’d be on her treatment table every week, seriously.
