As more people get vaccinated, businesses open their doors and we begin to gather outside of our households, let's remember that COVID-19 is still here and still a serious risk to the health of you and your loved ones. Wear your mask. Stay social distanced. Follow the public health guidelines. Most importantly, get vaccinated when you are eligible. Vaccines don’t just protect you they also protect the people around you. When enough people get vaccinated against a certain disease, germs can’t travel as efficiently and the entire community, including vulnerable populations and those who cannot get vaccinated, are less likely to get sick. Unsure of when you can get vaccinated? Visit https://myturn.ca.gov/ to find out or call our Bridges to Access Vaccination Helpline at (831) 219-8607

Today in 1870, the first African-American voter cast his vote. Thomas Mundy Peterson became the first African-American voter to cast his ballot. This was a major success towards giving equal rights to African-Americans. As we take some time to admire and acknowledge those who have made significant strides to create change in our communities we also recognize the need to continue the work for equal access to our rights and make this country more equitable for ALL.

"Low-wage jobs will not recover until 2024 according to the Congressional Budget Office. Until then, Americans who were the first to lose their jobs and will be last to get them backwill be depending on an uptick in the index of human kindness." This recovery lag will have a great impact on the clients that Community Bridges serves as most of our clients are low-wage workers. 77% living below the Federal Poverty Level. It also indicates the continued need for Community Bridges programs and services that provide vital safety net services. We will need our community to continue to pour out their human kindness to keep supporting these valuable community members through economic recovery.
