A recent observational study out of South America found that people eating three servings of bananas weekly had a remarkable 72% less risk for colon cancer. In ...order to test how bananas might do this, another team of researchers (in India) added #banana juice to colon cancer cells and found an astonishing level of toxicity, with 63% of the #coloncancer cells dying in a matter of hours. Which compounds are at work here? There are several possibilities. Bananas contain specialized proteins called lectins which are already known to possess strong anticancer properties. But they’re also rich in B vitamins, fiber, vitamin C and the alkalizing mineral potassium (with over 400 mg per medium fruit). All this for just 90 calories per delicious serving. See more
In a remarkable new study, water extracts from the peels of mandarin oranges shrank colon tumors of mice by over 80% after 24 days and dramatically reduced infl...ammation markers (by up to 72%). It’s truly rare that botanical extracts have such powerful effects. Perhaps it’s because citrus peels contain all the same cancer-fighting flavonoids as the fruit (hesperidin, naringenin, narirtuin, eriocitrin) but at far higher concentrations. Fortunately, according to observational studies, simply eating the fruit is enough: in Europe, people eating 3.5 servings of citrus #fruit weekly had 25% less risk for colon #cancer.
