Attention JaZzLiners, Bajabans and all the rest of y’all! We are celebrating Black History Month at KPFA 94.1fm with a 12 hour segment dedicated to our cultural... and historic contributions. In other words, telling our story. Let me start by acknowledging a young lady who is amazing. She exemplifies all areas of what we need in our young Black leaders. She is smart, intelligent, articulate, focused, no nonsense, responsible, accountable and beautiful. She has been the engine behind most of if not all of our special event presentations on KPFA’s airwaves(BTW celebrating 72 years of sound)Streaming at kpfa.org. Her name is Jeannine Etter! She is the Excutive Producer. And I must give praise and acknowledgement to Theresa Adams her associate producer who is formidable and has been an ongoing force for our BAJABA ShowCase series. Hail to the queens and thanks to all who are and were involved. Saturday, February 6th starting at 6am at KPFA 94.1fm will dedicate 12hours to our History, so from 6am til 6pm with the focus on our lives in the 1920’s, too much to write about, so I’ll talk about my segment. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Home of Black Wall Street. I’ll spend two hours 4-6pm PST talking to my radio Collegue, Ted Terry and our time and experiences at KKUL 103.3fm, 100 thousand watt radio station, the first full time black radio station and our beloved station Manager, Doctor Soul. I’ve included a picture of us surrounding him. You’ll hear voices of people who survive the 1921 massacre and what happened when a peaceful community was attacked, burned out and boomed, for simply being too successful for white folks, I will also talk to Tulsa Historian Princetta Rudd Newman with the real 411 about the most successful black community in America. Then fast forwarding to the 11pm-1am show, BAJABA on JaZzLine, I will feature and converse with Mark Ruffin, Jazz program director for SiriusXM, he has written his first book, and what a book it is BEBOP Fairy Tales we talk about that, his life’s experiences and have a ball doing it. Btw I didn’t mention where you can purchase the book! Go to his web site markruffin.com. The book will entertain, I promise you and to add a little more flavor in the second hour, I’ll feature music of the three musicians featured in BEBOP Fairy Tales, it’s a book, soundtrack. Listen to both hours of my show. Call me and give me the names of those 3 musicians, the first 2 callers will get an autographed copy from Mark Ruffin!!!call 415-860-9866! Listen to the magic of KPFA, go to KPFA’s website and make a donation and become a member of KPFA. JazZLine and BAJABA on JaZzLine are a JaZzLine INSTITUTE Production, Thx for listening and Thx for supporting KPFA, also Thx for listening to my show (celebrating 23 years at KPFA), Now Let’s Dance!!!
