Let's Ride Equestrian Therapy 21.12.2020

We love getting emails like this from our clients and their families :) Ann and Patti: I just want to thank you and Ann for all that you do for Blake. ... How his mind and body respond to an hour of therapy on the horse cannot be compared to the physical and emotional discomfort of the braces. Blake is compliant with the braces and does not complain but I can read his facial expressions and body language. The immediate difference in effect is obvious as well. Even with massage and creams to relax his muscles, his gait after an hour with the braces show that he is hurting. Yes, they help stretch the muscles but it is not a pleasant experience. The emotional stress offsets the physical benefit. I do not need to tell you that the physical, social, and (surprise) cognitive effects of equestrian therapy are remarkable and I am so thankful that Blake has the opportunity to participate. If I could afford it, he would be there every day. It is truly a remarkable and amazing therapeutic treatment modality. We see the stretch that he gets in riding as well as in the specific exercises. The stretch in just sitting on the horse involves his hips and back as well as his legs which we cannot do without significant pain in the braces. In riding the horse, he shows no evidence of pain or even awareness of it because he is enjoying the experience and movement. We see the vocal response to counting by the simultaneous sounds he makes in doing the exercises...that is amazing! We see the concentration necessary to maintain balance and follow directions. We see the joy of personal success and his physical strength is increased with pleasure replacing pain. I am grateful beyond words! Beverly
