In these times that feel a little unexplainable, here's a great piece of information from the Chairman of our bank to help outline some of what we're seeing in the current environment of the mortgage industry. This is a great graphic depicting the historical trending of the Federal Funds Rate which was deceased over the weekend versus long term mortgage rates; those which we the consumer are subject to.

As we all have heard this afternoon, the Federal Reserve has made a cut to the Federal Funds Rate in a proactive fiscal policy action. With that being said please don’t be panicked or caused to act based on headlines. The Fed cut that occurred today is NOT cutting 30 year mortgage rates. It’s important to understand that the Federal Funds Rate is the interest rate banks charge each other for overnight loans to meet reserve requirements. It does not directly dictate or set long term mortgage rates. This is not so say we will not see impacts to the mortgage rate environment...we likely will in due time. But this is NOT an immediate cut of mortgage interest rates to 0% as headlines can make it appear. Feel free to reach out with questions.
