DRY EYE SYNDROME occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears to properly lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for clear vision. Tear production can diminish with age, with certain medical conditions, and as a side effect of certain medications. Environmental factors like exposure to wind or dry air conditions can also affect quality tear production. Symptoms for this potentially chronic and pr...ogressive condition includes a gritty, stinging, burning sensation, redness, watery eyes, blurred vision, eye fatigue, and light sensitivity. Dry eye can make driving at night and wearing contacts for extended periods of time uncomfortable. Severe dry eye that goes untreated can damage the surface of the eye and lead to complications like eye infections and vision problems. If this affects you, there may be relief in sight. In addition to natural treatment options, we now offer the iLux, an FDA approved individualized targeted treatment option that uses light source heating and compression to protect your tears. The process only lasts a few minutes and eases symptoms for 6 to 8 months. Schedule your next visit with our doctors to see if you're a candidate today at (858) 453-0444.
