Lee’s newest piece, Delicate Balance (52 x 43 Wood), departs from the musical series and explores freedom from confinement, tackling the age-old struggle between order and chaos, but with continued respect for discipline and simplicity - ultimately creating a lyrical work of architectural compatibility. Silton’s more-recent foray into metallic is also notable not only in Delicate Balance, but her more recent similarly-compelling sculptures starting with Arabesque III and moving onto Blue Butterfly and Layered Matisse, proving that design isn’t beholden to black.

What better time of year, not to mention a more appropriate moment, to create a microcosmic climate in the studio as three young girls of different ages and backgrounds create a book of tolerance for children who experience isolation and bullying from their peers. This project evolved from a children’s poem Lee wrote years ago. When the artist read it to the young girls in the art studio one Saturday morning, these three decided to create illustrations to the story about t...wo critters, Turtle and Kitty, two friends true to their names and sadly torn apart who, through missing each other, reaffirm the beauty of friendship and its triumph over personal differences. The result of this art session was unexpected. Within an hour of drawing, conversation began to flow between once-strangers about diverse, yet shared interests different worlds connecting as a result of the power of art. The intent is to publish this book once completed. Whether a completed publication is brought to fruition or not, it is the resulting energy, empathy and developing friendships that will substantiate the effort. Stay tuned for more.

When Silton was conceiving Insight (32 x 32 Wood), she wanted to convey the human ability to pinpoint and perceive one’s unique sense of consciousness and intuition one lingering in a societal void as individual awareness emerges. Lee Silton’s Blue Butterfly (57 x 41 x 3 Wood) is a return to the artist’s character style: assemblage. Lee’s newest sculpture is set to composer Walter Arlen’s ode to Robert Frost’s acclaimed Blue Butterfly Day, though created in metallic gold to capture the resilience, beauty, brevity, and resurrection of both the poem and ensuing musical score and, of course, the spirit of the spring butterfly in question.

The newest creation in Lee’s Niche series, Memoir (42 x 36 x 5 Wood, Ivory, Collage) punctuates this family’s strongest theme: social compartmentalization. Her latest piece takes it one step further, interweaving the historical connection through strong references to the past as represented in the piece’s vintage photography as well as Buddhist poetry. Memoir in short is retrospection. Along with other pieces from the collection, Memoir was recently submitted as part of Lee’s Art Takes Miami entry. Be sure to check out Lee’s complete submission at http://www.arttakesmiami.com/portfolio.php?artist=leesilton. Finalists at Art Takes Miami win the opportunity to showcase their work at SCOPE Miami this December as part of the ever-important Art Basel.

Rooted in the concept of delivering the good news in a world where the latter is oftentimes absent, the Good News Flowers project brought together children, parents, educators and philanthropists, taking them from studio to classroom to banquet hall. Lee Silton’s mission, in conjunction with the Zimmer Children’s Museum, was to underline the importance of embracing the arts and how these benefit youth across all communities. The six-month project culminated in the showcasing of Lee’s flowers at the annual Zimmer Children’s Museum Discovery Award Dinner on November 4th of this year at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Proceeds from the auctioning of Lee’s Good News Flowers went to benefit the museum’s youTHink arts education program in the local public schools.
