We made it over to Le Citron tonight. Gilles Knafo, one of the area’s finest chefs opened Le Citron in a 133 year old house in Oceanside. For years the place h...as been rumored to be haunted by spirits including the ghost of its first resident, Sarah Weitzel or The Lady in Blue. In 2016 a paranormal team did an investigation and the existence of the ghosts was confirmed. They say they spoke to Sarah, The Lady in Blue. Le Citron is the latest in a series of splendid restaurants Giles has opened and nurtured. Each of his restaurants has creatively combined French/European influenced food with live music in really cool surroundings. Since Giles is also an accomplished jazz pianist he’s always attracted talented performers. For years Giles had Calypso in Leucadia. We loved that place. We used to walk there when we lived in Leucadia. It was always packed. The food and the music were great. After several years he closed Calypso and opened Baja Calypso south of the border on a bluff overlooking K-38, the surf spot. The food there was really good too, especially the lobster Puerto Nuevo style. And he had a steady stream of musicians coming down to play. I even got to play there one weekend, had a good time and really enjoyed Gile’s hospitality. Le Citron carries on Gile’s tradition of creative European cuisine with good music in really cool surroundings. Tonight at Le Citron I had my favorite fish: Chilean Sea Bass. Michelle had filet mignon with a Marsala sauce and goat cheese. We washed our meals down with the best of sangrias, full of fresh fruit. We were very happy eaters. It’s a bit of a journey for us (25 minute drive) since we live in Solana Beach. But we’ll go back soon...next time for breakfast and maybe a little chat with The Lady in Blue.
