Trail Trivia and Photo Opportunities Thank you for playing the LCF Trails Game Here are the Trail Trivia Questions for week #4 (April 24-30).... 7. Few spur trails remain connecting backyard stables to the main trails. This is because of homeowners developing their properties and encroaching into the trails taking away the ability to use them. The Georgian Spur off the Flint Canyon Trail near Chula Senda Ln. is not marked, however you can find it at lcftrails.org. (Post a photo or selfie at the junction) 8. In 1985, the Cherry Canyon Wilderness Area was purchased by the City of LCF in partnership with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. This purchase stopped developers, allowing this area to be open space for all to enjoy. (Post a photo or selfie at one of the four entrance signs to Cherry Canyon) 9. The Flintridge Riding Club was established in 1922 and is the oldest riding club west of the Mississippi River. (Post of photo or selfie at the tunnel that allows equestrians to safely ride under Oak Grove Drive to access Hahamonga Watershed.) Bonus Point Photos and Selfies 1. Ultimate Destination Point Sign near the drinking fountain in Cherry Canyon 2. Top of the switchbacks on Descanso Trail (include Verdugo Hills Hospital in photo) 3. Any view with yourself from 5 Points in Cherry Canyon 4. Wildflowers from any trail All previous winners are still eligible for the Grand Prizes! Best of luck to all the participants.

Thank you for playing the LCF Trails Game Here are the Trail Trivia Questions for week #3 (April 17-23) 5. Southern California Edison (SCE) has been an excellent benefactor of our trail system in LCF by providing thousands of dollars in grants for trail maintenance and repair. The western section of the La Cañada Open Space Trail above Foothill Blvd and the Trails Council Link Trail below Foothill Blvd are part of the Edison Right of Way. (Post a photo or selfie with an LC... Open Space Trail sign in this section.) 6. US Senator Frank P. Flint developed a wealthy suburb near Pasadena, naming it after himself, that included a golf course (now LCHS and Meadow Grove), a Country Club (now St. Francis HS) and the Flintridge Hotel (now Sacred Heart Academy). He was an avid equestrian creating trails in the hills south of Foothill Blvd that are now familiar streets. (Post a photo or selfie next to a trail sign with his name) Bonus Point Photos and Selfies Berkshire Bridge Angeles Crest Highway Arch Bridge Crossing the stream along Flint Canyon Trail Remember that one can only win one time each week, however all points are reviewed and tallied for the Grand Prize winners. Thank you for playing the LCF Trails Game! Here are the Trivia questions for week #2 (4/10-4/17). 3. This early landowner is credited with creating the first designated trails in Rancho La Cañada. At the entrance of his ranch, north of Foothill Blvd., he planted a row of eucalyptus trees that still exist today. There is both a street and trail that include his name. (Post a photo or selfie of a trail sign with his name.) 4) In the 1990’s, the Flint Canyon Trail was closed off by a homeowner encroaching into the easement across the wash. Eventually the gate was removed. A brick pillar (painted now to cover graffiti) still stands as a reminder of this history. (Post a photo or selfie with the pillar).

One of our members came upon a large swarm of bees while hiking the Cerro Negro Trail yesterday. Someone also posted a bee swarm at Glenola Park at the top of the straightaway on ACH. It’s spring and my understanding is they will swarm for a few days until they find a suitable place to build a hive. It is all part of nature and spring. Just be aware.

LCF Trails Game - Trail Trivia Week #1 (4/1-4/9, by midnight) 1. Although the original arch over the trail has been replaced, this trail’s entrance was adjacent to the land that was once Gouldmont Riding Academy (now St. Bedes Church). (Post a photo or selfie under the arch). 2. The final link to complete the City Loop required finding a way to cross the 210 freeway. In 2011 this link was completed after 5 years of obstacles. (Post a photo or selfie from this freeway cro...ssing). Post Bonus Point Photos and Selfies: 1. Curran Street Mosaic Sound Wall 2. Picnic table at the apex of the LC Open Space Trail

Saw this tied to the fence near the top of the switchbacks on the Descanso Trail this morning. It’s not unusual to see irresponsible or uneducated dog owners leaving a poop bag on the side of a trail, mistakenly thinking the city has a poop bag pickup service patrolling the trails to clean up after them. But this person actually took the time to tie it onto the fence! I wonder what message this person was sending to the rest of us?

Congratulations La Canada Flintridge trail users! All indications are the re-opening of our trails this past weekend was a rousing success! No reports of poor trails etiquette or inadequate social distancing. Everyone having fun, using masks when encountering another trail user and courteously stepping aside if necessary. I’m proud of you! Keep it up!

La Canada Flintridge Trails Council 25.11.2020

The trails within La Cañada Flintridge are now open! Please use proper trail and social distancing etiquette and we can keep them open. Note: The sign below is to be posted at all major trail heads by the City Of LCF. There appears to be some ambiguity as to whether face masks are required at all times and whenever you are on the trail or at only the 3 "gathering places" specifically mentioned. Clarification from the City has not been received as of this posting so if you meet a fellow trail user not wearing a mask while walking along the trail (not at a parking lot, trail head or a "destination point"), please give them the benefit of the doubt. We will continue to try and obtain clarification and post here when received. Thank you!

This announcement just made by Mark Alexander, the La Canada Flintridge City Manager: FYI - Supervisor Barger's office has announced that the County will be closing all County trails due to the lack of users using social distancing. As such and to avoid confusion between City and County trails because they are so intertwined, I have authorized the closure of all City trails as well. We are starting the notification process and will be updating our website.... We hope this will be a temporary closure as our trails provide a much needed escape for those craving fresh air, exercise and a bit of temporary escape from the new reality of the day. Please check the City of LCF’s website as well as LCFTrails.org for any future updates or changes in trail status.
