Congratulations to Academy Class 76 .. yesterday they celebrated the 20th anniversary of their academy graduation. Two decades of dedicated service to our community. Many department leaders in this group.

Painful and Heartbreaking .. over this last weekend (Friday night to Sunday night), Chicago reported 21 shootings that resulted in 26 injured victims, 5 of which were murdered .. including a 7-year-old child who was executed in a McDonald's drive-thru. How is this not front page national news?

Today we remember the 168 innocent people who were killed, and the 680+ people who were injured in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City bombing at 9:02 AM on April 19, 1995. The dead included 19 children, three pregnant women, eight law enforcement officers and six US military personnel. The suspect was arrested approximately 90 minutes after the blast when Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Charlie Hanger stopped a vehicle that was not displaying a license plate and found that the driver was illegally carrying a concealed and loaded firearm. Patrolman Hanger made an arrest for the violation and within a few hours, the FBI had tied the driver to the bombing.

Headlines from the last 24-hours expose the dangers officers have to face. Guns and knives are not the only things officers have to be concerned when dealing with people who have evil intent.

Our officers do dozens of random acts of kindness that go unnoticed every day. This one was captured by a passing motorist. Thank you to Sergeant Lehman for his kindness, and thank you to all of our officers who continue to be community heroes.

A reminder that there will be a procession for an honored hero to tomorrow. Sending our best to the family of Deputy Jeffrey McKee and all of our friends at LASD.

Horrible .. so many families devastated with unbelievable pain. Similar incidents happened in South Carolina and Texas last week. We thank the first responders who are dealing with this tragedy despite the immense emotional trauma it creates.

Honoring our world class dispatchers and communication experts. They are an invaluable part of our public safety team. Incredible hard working professionals.

Today starts Cambodian New Year also known as Khmer New Year. Long Beach has a large and thriving Cambodian community. We wish all of our community members and friends a safe and happy celebration.

100mph chase and a passenger suspect shooting at officers with a rifle ... 3 officers shot. Horrifically dangerous criminal behavior. Praying for the full recovery of the injured officers.

In honor of National Siblings Day we highlight two sisters who both been awarded LBPD Officer of the Year. Officer Laurie (Birney) Barajas won in 2013 and her sister Officer Tammie (Briney) Stilinovich won in 2017. Great people! Thank you to all of our officers who have siblings joining them in law enforcement.

Houston PD Sergeant Sean Rios. 25-Year Veteran of Houston PD. Father of four young children. Shot and killed in the line of duty. The suspect is still outstanding. God Bless the men and women of Houston PD who are searching for the suspect(s) as they grieve the loss of a fourth officer in the last 12 months (three of those officers were murdered by gunfire).

Heartbreaking day in Houston. A Houston PD police sergeant has been shot and killed in the line of duty. Just a few weeks ago (on Oct 20), HPD Sergeant Harold Preston was also shot and killed. The grief at HPD is tremendous. Sending our best to all of our peer and friends throughout the Houston area.

Horrible and evil attack on officers in Baltimore. Thankful they will survive.

Great People Doing Great Work

GREAT JOB!! Last night, this group of North Patrol Officers saw a group of young kids that had to stop their practice early because there were no lights at the park. So ... the officers lit up the field with their police car lights and later challenged them to a game (kids won).

Very tough news coming out of Wisconsin early this morning. Thankful the officers willl survive.

Hoping all of the victims will fully recover. Very long day for many officers (already working 12 hour shifts and longer) .. very thankful they were able to locate a suspect and make an arrest.

It has been a very tense few days in the nation. We hope everyone takes a moment to pause and decompress today with a smile and a donut. Thank You to all of our officers working today .. you might get a donut tease, but we sure are thankful for your service!
