Home Office Safety & Security Week With so many of us in the Viking community working from home, it is vital that we assess our home office security. The Foundation encourages you to take some time to analyze the safety of your work environment.... A few tips to keep in mind: - Be cautious about ‘odd’ emails phishing attempts are at an all-time high. Call the colleague in question over the phone to confirm the validity - Use strong passwords combination of symbols, letters, and numbers - Change passwords yearly - Invest in anti-virus software and update firewall settings on your devices - Use centralized storage solutions - Back up files/data to storage - Keep up to date with all company software patches and updates the IT department is a key resource - Shred old documents and organize current ones - Child-proof and pet-proof your work space - Don’t allow family members to use your work devices - Check that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning Along with the flexibility of working from home comes the risk of home workspace security issues. Taking these proactive steps will help keep your household better protected in these unprecedented times. Be well, and #GoVikings ! #homeoffice #safetyfirst #homeofficesafetyandsecurityweek #2021 #lbcc #lbccvikings #lbccfoundation

We are very sad for the loss of our wonderful amazing friend, Mary Thoits. She lived her life to the fullest. Mary inspired thousands of people with her creativity and curiosity though the classes and activities offered at the LBCC Lifetime Learning Center. Without her devotion, the Lifetime Learning Center would not be what it is today. Having started the program in 1978, she retired from running the program in 2015, but continued teaching until the mandatory campus closures.... She loved the social environment she created for her students, and sparked their interest to learn and experience new ideas. We will miss her terribly, but her legacy will live on. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the LBCC Foundation in Mary’s honor at www.lbcc.edu/lbcc-foundation The first two pictures where taken on June 3, 2020. We celebrated her 97th birthday at Stearns Park. She was so happy to see her friends. The last photo includes (from the left) Beverly O’Neill, Eunice Sato, Mary Thoits and Gary Scott.
