On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Helmer Friedman LLP Partner and founder, Andrew H. Friedman, along with Ramit Mizrahi Mizrahi Law reprised their annual and highly acclaimed The Year In Review: Annual Employment Law Update to an overflow crowd of nearly 1,000 plaintiff employment attorneys from all over the state. The informative and hilarious review included a surprise appearance by President Donald J. Trump (although a few in the crowd thought that it was Boris Johnson), a witch, and the the burning of hundred dollar bills.

The California Labor & Employment Law Review just published an article authored by Helmer Friedman LLP attorneys Andrew H. Friedman and Taylor Markey. Entitled A Refresher on and Thoughts About Unconditional Offers of Reinstatement, the article examines a legal stratagem (the so-called unconditional offer of reinstatement doctrine) used by employers who have violated the law to minimize the damages that they have to pay illegally treated employees and explains why the California Supreme Court should reject the doctrine and find that it is at odds with California’s strong public policy of eradicating employment discrimination. The New York Times has today once again published a terrific article explaining the horrors of forced arbitration and how it allows companies to escape responsibility for systemic sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and pay disparities - https://www.nytimes.com//kay-jewelry-sexual-harassment.htm With the explosion of the #MeToo Movement, mandatory arbitration agreements, as they pertain to sexual harassment claims, have come under fierce attack and many companies are ...abandoning those agreements. Andrew H. Friedman (of Helmer Friedman LLP) and Tony Oncidi (of Proskauer Rose LLP) will speak at a webinar put on by the California Lawyers Association (CLA) on April 24, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. about this phenomenon along with the pros and cons of arbitration and related topics such as the CEO diversity pledge.
