The pandemic was a big loss. To transcend languishing, try starting with small wins, like the tiny triumph of figuring out a whodunit or the rush of playing a seven-letter word. One of the clearest paths to flow is a just-manageable difficulty: a challenge that stretches your skills and heightens your resolve. That means carving out daily time to focus on a challenge that matters to you an interesting project, a worthwhile goal, a meaningful conversation. Sometimes it’s a small step toward rediscovering some of the energy and enthusiasm that you’ve missed during all these months. https://www-nytimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org//covid-mental-h

When the pandemic grounded all attorneys and stopped travel, I decided that I wanted to work on goals that, because of my pre-pandemic travel schedule, were not possible. I wanted to get more involved in the San Diego legal scene, so I dove head-first into it. I became more involved with Lawyer’s Club of San Diego and joined Women of Color in the Law. These organizations work tirelessly to further women’s rights, and the diversity of women leaders in the legal field. This year’s theme for Lawyer’s Club: ‘Service, Inclusion & Advocacy,’ became my personal mantra. https://news.bloomberglaw.com//making-partner-in-a-pandemi

The question of what experiences and people shape who we are can be murky for some yet have remarkable clarity for others. Listening to Lawyers Club of San Diego President Yahairah Aristy for even a few moments makes clear that she is firmly rooted in that latter camp. Her life is testimony to a play on an old adage: behind every strong woman, there is a group of strong women who have supported, nurtured and prepared her for success. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com//someone-san-diego-sh

Get your tickets today so you can say, I was there when, despite a global pandemic, Lawyers Club hosted a red carpet virtual dinner and awarded the 2021 ICON award to California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber, the first African American to be California SOS in the 170-year history of the constitutional offices. In other words, I was on the right side of herstory! Beyond being a virtual red carpet event with bells and whistlesincluding a hand-delivered dinner; a full bottle of wine; and LC swag goodies including a LC branded bag and wine glasses with a few other surpriseswe will reflect on Lawyers Club’s call to action for us all to shine a light on bias and inequality and to collectively use our voices to advocate for a more equitable and inclusive society. https://lawyersclubsandiego.com/

Flashing back to a 2017 Lawyers Club of San Diego event to wish all attorneys a Happy Be Kind to Lawyers Day today! The day was created by non-lawyer Steve Hugh...es to recognize the important contributions lawyers make in society. That recognition and kindness continue to be important as the legal field enters its second year of #WFH life, where attorneys have risen to the challenge of using tech in place of in-person proceedings like trials, depos, client meetings, and more. Your resilience and resourcefulness has allowed the wheels of justice to keep turning, and on that note I’d like to give a big shoutout to all attorneys here in our wonderful legal community today! I miss each and every one of you and can’t wait until we can all come together again at our events, such as this June 2017 Lawyers Club of San Diego Annual Dinner where these pictures were taken. Meanwhile, the show must go on, as they say so the Lawyers Club will hold a virtual Annual Dinner on May 6 this year. Don’t miss it!

The findings were dispiriting. Women make up half the population, but they comprise 39% of journalists and just 26% of journalism leadership globally. They’re grossly underrepresented in media coverage, as well. For example, women were quoted voices in only 29% of online news stories analyzed in the U.K. in 2019and that was the highest percentage among the six countries. In India, they made up just 14%. On high-profile beats such as the economy, men’s share of voices was up to 31 times higher than women’s. https://ww2.gatesfoundation.org//ar/women-in-media-report/

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in her dissent, wrote, "This country's laws have long singled out abortions for more onerous treatment than other medical procedures that carry similar or greater risks." The FDA's rules "imposes an unnecessary, irrational, and unjustifiable undue burden on women seeking to exercise their right to choose," she wrote. "One can only hope that the Government will reconsider and exhibit greater care and empathy for women seeking some measure of control over their health and reproductive lives in these unsettling times." https://www.npr.org//supreme-court-oks-white-house-request

There isn’t much systematic research that definitively shows that poll workers have been largely female, but I think the reason for that is because it sort of goes without saying, said Mitchell Brown, a political science professor at Auburn University who has extensively researched election administration. Sarah Courtney, a spokesperson for the League of Women Voters, agreed that the underreporting of who is serving as poll workers highlights a reality about women in elections: We’re just really taken for granted. https://19thnews.org//poll-workers-young-women-stepping-up/

Kristen Welker is the first Black woman to moderate a presidential debate solo since 1992. Her resumé is pretty stacked: She's been a broadcast journalist since graduating from Harvard University with a history degree in 1998. Prior to joining NBC News, Welker was a reporter and anchor at ABC affiliate stations in Redding, California, and Providence, Rhode Island. She spent about five years at the NBC affiliate in her hometown of Philadelphia before joining NBC News in 2010... and becoming one of the network's White House correspondents in 2011. In her current role, Welker traveled extensively with members of the Obama administration and was a primary member of the women-led team at the forefront of NBC News' 2016 election coverage. https://www.marieclaire.com//a34397/who-is-kristen-welker/
