This client's case wrapped up about 2 years ago. For her to go out of her way to post this review now is very much appreciated: Google: Erin Smolinski Nov 06, 2020, 01:48 AM on Google Thank you Jim! I can’t say enough how grateful I am for your help, knowledge and services. My situation/case was really hard on me, but having you as my lawyer made it so much better. Jim was supportive and continuously helped me through a really rough time. Everything worked out and I wouldn’t be where I am at today without him!

I have been named the "Best Family Law Attorney" in San Diego by the San Diego Reader. Thank you for the recognition.

NOTICE: NOT A POLITICAL POST Today was a great day. In a contested hearing I was able to win co-equal custody (50%/50%) and joint legal custody for a father who had lost custody a few years ago. Same judge, but this time he used my office to work the case on his behalf and he listened to our advice over the past 10 months we have represented him and for that I am very proud of him. The mother used her former attorney who was a bit over confident (and over priced but that's a different issue) if I am being frank. Regardless, today justice was done and a dad is reunited with his little girl.

Court update: Courts are "open". If by "open" you consider they can't file anything on time because they don't have the clerks trained on the new e-file system they want all of us to use. If by "open" you consider the use of Microsoft Teams to appear and virtually "argue" the case while sitting in your office and watching others in the "virtual waiting room" hang out in their kitchens, bedrooms and laying on the couch with their dog eating chips. Of course the Governor h...as now cut the court budget, again, Let's see how long a full 1/3 of our government stays "open". On the bright side I have won all 3 virtual hearings since the opening. Beat a restraining order so my client can now see his kid, won $7K in fees in another case where the Dad wanted a "move away" motion and the last case we won another $4K in fees against another "Dad" who decided to lie about being married to his adulteress but wanted to try and zero out his ordered spousal support to his ex wife among other requests that were denied by the court. This last one still has some life to it but if the "Dad" has any brains he should quit while he's behind. If you need a lawyer, call me. With all the new rules and procedures the court is a maze inside a minefield surrounded by a hurricane. You should have a good pilot to guide and fight you through it. All the best.

I hope everyone is staying safe. Although the courts are presently closed I have received notice of the following awards, which I am very appreciative of earning:

I hope everyone is staying safe during these pressing times. The practice of law is an "essential" activity per the current orders and as such we remain "open". While our office is open we not seeing clients in person. Please know that your matter is being worked on except for court hearings which are continued to at least May 1. Office hours are a bit variable given the current situation but we are in the office everyday. We may come in a little later and leave a little ...earlier to be with our families, but we are also working from home when not in the office. The office continues to take on new clients. Please give us a call or drop an email. We will conduct a phone interview, email all required documents and we can even do a Zoom meeting if you like. So wash your hands and know we are here for you when you need us.

It has been a good week overall but I received this email from my client today in relation to her family law (custody/visitation/child support and attorneys fees) case we argued successfully yesterday. I am very humbled by her appreciation: Dear Jim, I want to personally thank you for all that you did yesterday! This has been an extremely long, emotional, and bitter battle for me, and I know that I would not have achieved the same outcome had it not been for you! I am forever grateful for your representation, and for how hard you worked on my case and fought on my behalf. Thank you also, for being so well prepared for court. You are truly an honor and a credit to your profession. And I am so thankful to have had you as my attorney! May you have a blessed weekend.

I have not posted in a while. We have been very busy in court for our clients. This week so far: post judgment custody long cause hearing (think mini trial): Win. Civil Restraining Order Trial: Win. Custody short cause argument only: Win. The office is on a roll but each day is a new challenge and we have 2 more heavily contested hearings this week. Updates to follow.

Last week was quite a run of wins. Vista court back to back days (over 5 hours in the car). For one really contentious case I had yet another "Certified Family Law Specialist" from the newest downtown "mega firm" against me. Mr. $600/hour told me for the past 2 months "how it is going to go". I LOVE it when the other lawyer says that. At the end of the hearing his client had the "I just got hit by a truck" look on his face. Then his new wife (who is truly pushing the litigation) was starting to cry. I really love my job on certain days and this was one of them. Mr. $600/hour trying to explain why they lost in the hallway as I walked past them was all of a sudden really friendly to me.
