Advance medical directives are not only for older adults, they are for everyone. It is important for all adults to have advance directives because you never know when you will be in a position where you need others to make medical decisions for you. ADVANCE MEDICAL DIRECTIVES are written instructions letting your physician, family and friends know your medical care preferences. In the event that you are unable to make medical decisions for yourself, your family and doctors... will consult your advance directives. Having written instructions can help reduce confusion or disagreement. One should consider their options early to ensure the quality of life that is important to you and avoid having others make unwanted decisions on your behalf. Sometimes people, especially family, under stress or in emotional turmoil, are unable to complete an individual’s wishes. There are many different types of advance directives: Living will: A written legal document that specifically states what types of medical procedures you want and do not want such as tube feeding or resuscitation. Medical or health care power of attorney: The medical POA is a legal document assigning an individual as a health care agent to make medical decisions for you in the event that you're unable to do so. This DOES NOT authorize someone to make financial transactions for you. This authority does not have to be given to a family member. You can give the directive to a friend, roommate, spouse or any other person you choose to designate. Do not resuscitate (DNR) order. This is a request/order preventing CPR from being performed if you stop breathing. While Medical Directives and Powers of Attorney are not something we want to think about, it is something we must do if we want our wishes honored. In today's litigious society, it is easier if your wishes are known in advance so that there are no arguments between family and friends. Expungement is the process in which one asks the State Court where you were convicted to re-open your case and set aside your guilty plea, your no contest plea or the actual conviction and DISMISS the case. It is no longer considered an expungement. Instead, you will no longer be considered to be convicted of the crime by the State of California, and your criminal record will permanently display the charges to be dismissed, rather than showing a conviction. Expungements are ...important nowadays where a thorough background check can be done by virtually anyone with a computer. These background checks are completed by potential employers, landlords, lenders and pretty much anyone that pays a fee and has sufficient background information on a person. By completing an expungement, the chances are your case and conviction will appear to be dismissed if it appears on your report, at all.
