In this time of lockdown and pandemic, many of my clients are unsure about how to go about managing their custody arrangements. Courts have consistently stated across the country that the current Court Orders in your matter will remain so for the foreseeable future. Exceptions to carrying out your custody and visitation schedule will hinge on whether you can manage, for example, out of state travel to see your child (you cannot at present, so that visitation is suspended), or whether you, your child, or someone in your household is ill. Absent these situations, you and the other parent are to work together to continue in your current arrangement. Call me for more details on this and other family law questions you may have. Stay safe, and be healthy!

Every business seems to have it's "busy" season; family law takes off right after the holidays! So, here we are, in a new year. How can I help you?

It's that time of year again! My, how the weeks and months do fly by! In law, as in life, important events need to be planned (where possible); don't be overcome by the inevitable stress caused by the lack of communication between you and your co-parent around the holidays. At this most joyous time of year, we should have a plan for our children: Where they will go for Thanksgiving and what have you, who they will spend their time with during their school breaks, and what... celebrations will occur when and with whom. At this point (late October) it is too late to seek the Court's assistance in scheduling these events, so I hope that you have a plan for your family for the upcoming weeks. If not, now is the time to have that conversation: DISCUSS how you'd like for your children to spend the holidays, as far in advance as possible. SUGGEST alternatives when scheduling conflicts arise. And perhaps most importantly, BE FLEXIBLE: your children love both of their parents; give them the opportunity to spend time with everyone they love. They will make good memories, and you will have some much-needed peace if you can just work together for their sake. If things don't go as planned this year, PRIORITIZE the schedule for 2019: get into mediation, speak with your attorney, file a Request with the Courts....and call me! =)

Abuse is real; threats are real. An RO is just a piece of paper, one which is often ignored. In order to be safe, you must act in a manner which protects you from those who wish to do you harm.

The holiday season is the hardest time of year on a single parent; especially if your visitation with your children is minimal. Use these next months to create new traditions with your children, and remember that it is not "the Day" that counts, but the memories you can create with the ones you love.
