Do you ever wonder if washing your face when you wake up is totally necessary? I know for most - mornings are hectic as it is & then add an extra step?! Excuse me Cici what? I know - here me out. Even if your before-bed skin care routine consists of four or more steps and you always hit the pillow with a makeup-free face, cleansing in the evening AND morning is suggested by most dermatologist’s and esthetician’s. ... The nighttime cleansing removes dirt, debris, environmental pollutants, makeup and excess oil from a busy day. However, a daytime or morning cleanse is just as important for three main reasons: 1) Removes unwanted skin contactants: Believe it or not, your skin can accumulate environmental debris in your sleep, so it’s necessary to wash them off in the morning. Dead skin cells and allergens may collect on your pillowcase and be transferred to the facial skin throughout the night. Circulated air (from you air conditioner or forced heated air) can also kick up dust, mold and other environmental irritants that may collect on facial skin overnight. Yuck! 2) Eliminates skin-producing oils and irritants: Oils can also accumulate on the skin overnight, so properly removing them is crucial for your morning routine to be effective. Why? Removing the oils allows for better penetration of skin products and proper application of makeup. Like all else - it’s the potential misinformation behind it. Often users think oh heck yeah my skin is problematic and this will provide a deep clean; nope. If you use these devices on already irritated / broken out skin you can worsen your skin condition. You can actually spread ...bacteria and inflame the skin more. Yikes! No bueno! It’s best to start with a gentle cleanse with a soft cloth or your fingers tips for a while before you bring out the big guns! TRUST THE DOUBLE CLEANSE METHOD BABE! Your skin will thank you! There was once a time when we all believed washing our faces with soap and water was all the cleansing our skin needed before we hit the sack and call it a night. Then double cleansing came along, and our bedtime routines were never the same again. Turns out our usual soap-and-water combo (and face wipes) isn’t going to cut it if we want all that gunk and grime off our face after a full day at work (and extended happy hour). Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser. It can help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that can remain on the skin even after washing your face once. The benefit of double cleansing is that the first cleanser will break down any makeup, remove dirt and excess oils from the day and clean your skin. The second cleanser will address your particular skin type or concern and should have ingredients to hydrate, smooth or exfoliate and treat acne. Doing both steps will assure that any treatment and moisturizing is not done in vain.
