SPD News: Chief Eric Jones Retires After 29 years of service, Chief Eric Jones is retiring from the Stockton Police Department effective today, December 30, 202...1. Chief Jones began his career with the Stockton Police Department on April 16, 1993, as a Police Officer Trainee and was sworn in on August 27, 1993. While a police officer, he became a Departmental Trainer and Instructor and then promoted to Sergeant in 1999. He was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Assistant Chief over the decades. Due to his outstanding work ethic, he was appointed as the 49th Chief of Police for the Stockton Police Department on March 1, 2012. For the past nine years, Chief Jones has led the Stockton Police Department in contemporary intelligence-led policing methods and created Stockton’s Real-Time-Policing concepts. He also created the Department’s first Community Response Teams and Community Advisory Board. Chief Jones authored the 2012 Violence Reduction Initiative for Stockton. In 2015, he developed and led Principled Policing with the California State Department of Justice for statewide training, also leading to Stockton being one of only six sites for the National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice. In 2017, he founded the Stockton Alliance for Equity (SAFE) Coalition for Criminal Justice Leaders. He has received national awards and recognition (DOJ/Destination Zero), and his work was profiled in July 2016 in The New York Times, in June 2017 in USA Today, and in the Los Angeles Times in July 2020.Chief Jones has always focused on employee health and received national recognition for the creation of the SPD Wellness Program. Chief Jones has been an outstanding and focused leader who has guided the Stockton Police Department through countless challenges. He is well-respected and an example to all staff within the Police Department and City of Stockton. We want to thank Chief Jones for his many contributions to our Department the past 29 years. On 11-23-2021 at 6:30 p.m. an inmate escaped the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. The inmate, 38-year-old Ruben Zavala Garcia, was in custody for mul...tiple criminal charges to include domestic violence, violation of restraining order, false imprisonment, burglary, and a violation of probation. Garcia was in custody and had not been convicted or sentenced for his charges. Garcia escaped while performing supervised inmate worker duties outside of the jail facility. EDSO immediately responded to Garcia’s escape by investigating and contacting persons and locations associated to Garcia. EDSO searched the South Lake Tahoe area with deputies, detectives, canines, and air support. EDSO contacted the victim in Garcia’s criminal case and the victim is aware of the incident. Garcia was not located during the all-night search. EDSO is actively and aggressively working this case and there is an active Ramey Warrant for the arrest of Garcia for PC 4532 (B)(1). (Escape from Jail) Garcia is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs approximately 170 pounds, and has tattooed forearms. Garcia was last seen wearing a khaki-colored jail issued uniform with a short-sleeved shirt and long pants. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Garcia, or has any information that may assist EDSO with this investigation, please contact EDSO dispatch at 530-621-6600.
