Help bring a multi-cultural civil rights mural to the Laurel to show unity in our community through art and public education. Fernando Santos-owner of Beast Oakland and art teacher at Lazear Academy in East Oakland-is scheduled to start work next week on a mural honoring icons of the civil rights movement: Fred Korematsu, John Lewis, and Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez. Volunteers were able to upgrade a broken slow street sign across from Laurel elementary with a pallet planter to show some love for those taking it slow in the Laurel. Be safe out there everbody! #OaklandSlowStreets

A beautiful weekend to plant some coffee berry at Laurel Elementary. Did anyone else catch the amazing sunset tonight? The fruitless pear trees are in full bloom right now so get out there to see them before they're gone.

If you need some extra light in your holiday this year come by 3733 Maybelle and see if you can count all of the Christmas figures on display. Anyone else know of some good holiday lights in the Laurel?

Thanks to all the Laurelites who came out for a weekend of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King to help plant trees and flowers and clean up trash around Laurel Elementary. Keep the dream alive for a brighter future with equality, justice, and love.

Escape the lockdown for a bit at the Laurel Art Garden. This weekend we were able to get some plants in the ground during the winter planting season, pick up some books from the little free library, and take in the sculptures. Stay safe and happy holidays!
