Lassen Land & Trails Trust

The Almanor Basin Trails Coalition just completed a $2.6 million grant application to acquire the 12-mile former Almanor Railroad and convert the first 1.5 miles to a greenway trail. This includes restoration of a 155 ft. long railroad bridge over the NF Feather River. The improved section lies between central Chester and the trailhead for the Olsen Barn Meadow Preserve. This new purchase runs between Chester and Clear Creek with many scenic views overlooking Lake Almanor, Bailey Creek and Rock Creek. When the entire rail corridor is converted to a trail, it will connect with the Bizz Johnson Trail in Westwood to create a continuous 37.5 mile rail-trail linking Chester, Westwood and Susanville - how cool is that!

FYI good news, the Forest Supervisor terminated the Dixie Closure Order on the Lassen National Forest on 12/8. You can go anywhere to recreate this winter, but please stay on designated roads and trails. Also check the Lassen NF website for any seasonal closures to prevent wheel ruts on roads as the weather gets wetter. Thank you FS!! And happy holidays everyone!
