Thank you, Maggie! It couldn't be done without the support and help of you and all the other staff and office friends throughout the years. We also appreciate our visually impaired guests whom allow us to play "host" for the day, invite us into their lives, & share these memories.

Whether they're 8 months old or 8 years old...this kind of reaction when they can see clearly for the first time is awesome! Tell all your friends to make sure their children are getting routine eye exams with the eye doctor!

Have you ever looked closely at your own iris? Artificial eyes (called prosthesis) have become evolved works of art, hand painted by ocularists. An iris has beautiful details, layers of colors on a prosthesis. The thin red vessels on the white of the eye can be painted, or, as one talented Sacramento ocularist described it, can be very thin lacquered red threads to give a tiny but realistic raised vessel effect. A renowned ocularist in Portland, OR can include words or pictures, symbolic to his client, in the prosthesis he makes.

John Bramblitt didn't begin painting until he became blind at the age of 30, in 2001, after years of epileptic seizures took his sight. He has received awards not only for his vividly painted pieces, but for his dedication in volunteering free art workshops for communities or people who may have otherwise limited opportunities.

What a great experience for everyone!

We'll be helping to host the United States Association of Blind Athletes booth for blind / visually impaired runners at the California International Marathon this morning ... we got to mingle with runners and their guides last night. What an amazing, awesome group of people. Seriously. Richard Hunter spearheads and organizes and dedicates a LOT of time to ensure that the runners have their needs met. Come on down and cheer them on! GO TEAM USABA!!!

Large pupils are associated with youth. Pupils are large when we are young and become smaller as we age. During the Italian Renaissance, some women would use a plant toxin 'Atropa Belladonna' to enlarge their pupils, in an effort to appear bright eyed and youthful! In ophthalmic usage, there is a strong dilating drop (used only in very certain circumstances) called 'atropine' --- derived in part from this plant!
