A great time at our Coffee with a Captain and Chief event today! #lasdtransitservices Captain Kehoe joined @azpdmbertelsen and many @metrolosangeles officials, for a hot cup of Joe and some good conversation. @cityofazusa Mayor Robert Gonzales, several city council members, and city executives also attended and shared ideas for continuing public safety and the impacts and advantages of public transit. A very special thank you to Metro System Security and Law Enforcement Chief... Gerhardt who, even on a knee that had serious surgery not long ago, still came and mingled with the public! Stay turned for more coffee with a captain and a deputy events coming soon! #thankful #communitysupport #lasdgometro #azusapacificuniversity @lasdhq @lacosheriff

WHAT A DIFFERENCE 145 DAYS MAKES!!! Back in July of this year #lasdtransitservices Station Dispatcher Yan hung up his headset and microphone for a badge and handcuffs. On December 17, Law Enforcement Technician Yan (blue uniform) became Deputy Sheriff Yan (tan/green uniform), after completing 21 grueling weeks of training. (Some of the toughest law enforcement training in the Country) @lacosheriff Alex Villanueva presided over the graduation.... We’re very proud of his accomplishments and after serving his Country, we’re more than certain that this military veteran will be just as good a deputy as he was a dispatcher! He begins this new portion of his @lasdhq career at Custody Division, but we can’t wait until he has the opportunity to once again serve @metrolosangeles patrons. Congrats Deputy Yan! Serve well and honorably Sir!!! #onwardsandupwards #stillserving #differentandbetter #lawenforcement #lasdgometro

While you were commuting to work or schoolWe were keeping you safe! Earlier this morning, #lasdtransitservices Deputies Hamor (lf) and Sosa responded to the @metrolosangeles Hawthorne C-Line Station, regarding a call of a man possibly trying to start a fire on a train car. Deputies soon arrived and found a man who was using a lighter to ignite the spray of aerosol can. The man was safely detained and was found to be in possession of narcotics. Deputies Hamor and Sosa could ...have cited the man and end the contract, but something told these public safety pros to book the man on the indicated charges. While they were booking the man, a 44 year old man contacted our station desk personnel and told them about a man on the C-Line who was attempting to light him on fire earlier in the day. Hamor and Sosa dispatched their partners to speak with the man and he told them of feeling the flames so close to him that it singed his eyebrows. Although the man refused medical treatment her did wish to press charges. Deputies Hamor and Sosa additionally charged the suspect with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and our detectives may file additional charges after they investigation. Public safety is the key to #metro and to us! #safetyandsecurity #transitcommunity #wekeepyousafe #mydayinla #fortunate @lasdhq @lacosheriff

WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!! Last Friday, we were honored to have community car clubs and Golden Ox Burgers in @cityofmontebello host a toy drive that produced many toys to be given at our 2021 version of Where’s the Santa Deputy?. Today, we were in East Los Angeles and Montebello, handing out toys, and were even invited by @mtbcm_kimberly to participate in their drive thru toy giveaway. All while a second team of Santa Deputies were at the @metrolosangeles Rosa Par...ks Station Complex, also handing out toys and smiles! A very special thank you to all who participated, the City of Montebello, Mayor Kimberly Ann Cobos-Cawthorne, Councilmember Salvador Melendez, all of the Montebello city officials, Law Enforcement Community Liaison for Metro Carlos Rico, and all of the car clubs that participated, especially Old Memories for their leadership and coordination! Here’s to wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year!!! #communityfirst #bettertogether #makingkidshappy #lasdgometro @lasdhq @lacosheriff

Happy #nationalpublicsafetytelecommunicatorsweek!! Acting Captain Chris Garcia (far lt) wanted to make sure that his dispatch crew knew just how much they were appreciated by the unit and the Department. So yesterday, he had cake and pizza brought in to say just that. Being a #policedispatcher is a tough enough job, but although each department or agency has it’s own challenges, working as a dispatcher for the #lasdtransitservices is a task onto itself.... Coordinating your field personnel to any given location is key to getting help to those who need it quickly. However, since we provide police services to @metrolosangeles buses, trains, and properties, our dispatch personnel are usually trying to coordinate resources to a moving target. A daunting task in the best of circumstances. That being said, our dispatch personnel are truly experienced at keeping you safe, when you need us the most! After all, we’ve been doing it since 1990. Our hats off to all of the #publicsafety #dispatchers everywhere, who do the work everyday to mitigate the problem, on what could be your worst day! #doingthework #dispatchheroes #bettertogether #todayandeveryday #lasdgometro @lacosheriff @lasdhq

#throwbackthursday Today we go way back to 2015, where now retired Captain Karl Schow shares a belly laugh with now retired Captain Jennifer Bateman, at a press event hosted by @metrolosangeles. At the time, we were a four Bureau division known as the Transit Policing Division. Schow was the South Bureau captain and Bateman captain of the North Bureau.... It’s important to remember that, although the configuration of our infrastructure has changed a bit, we continue the mission and then some. #wekeepyousafe is not just a tag line, but rather a commitment to protect the rights of all with whom we are charged with and ensure safe passage, to the best of our ability!!! Have a great rest of your day and an even #betterweekend #goodmemories #communityservice #nomatterwhat #lasdtransitservices #lasdtransitdiv #workingtogether #unionstation #retiredheroes @lasdhq @lacosheriff

GOOD MONDAY MORNING to all of our faithful followers! This photo might just look like a really neat souvenir from #superbowl LV, but actually it’s so much more. This year, as every year for the past few, we’ve sent members from our explosives detection K9 team to the big game and the weeks leading up to the game, to assist local, state, and federal law enforcement keeping everyone safe doing that time.... As a wonderful gesture of appreciation, the local agency responsible for security at the game, this year was the Hillsbrough County Sheriff commissioned these beautiful badges with our agency information and the #superbowllv logo. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity and hospitality! A special thank you to all the men and women who participated in the multi agency effort and of course @tsa for bringing it all together! Have a great day and an even better week!! #workingtogether #everyday #bettertogether #safeandsecure #lasdgometro #wekeepyousafe #lasdtransitservices @metrolosangeles @lasdhq @lacosheriff

IT’S TIME FOR DODGER BASEBALL!!! (Sorry for stealing the line Vinny!) Hard to believe with all that’s been going on this past year that today is opening day for Major League Baseball. The #boysinblue will be back in action at Coors Field in the #milehighcity of Denver, CO. Seems like just yesterday that they brought the #worldseries title home to the #cityofangels. Are you ready for a repeat? Looks like our personnel are and so is @metrolosangeles by specially wrapping their ...buses and trains with images of our #fav players! Wage theft can be perpetrated against employees at any income level. But Wage-theft victims are often some of the most marginalized @countyofLA residents. This ...should be treated as a criminal offense. @LASDHQ is going to do something about it. #throwbackthursday We remember back to June of 2016 when young cancer patient Alfonso Hoffman was sworn in by #lasdtransitservices Acting Chief Mike Claus as K9 Deputy for a Day! Young Deputy Hoffman, after being sworn in, was put through his paces as a Bureau #k9handler by our @tsa trained K9 Deputies, before heading out to the @metrolosangeles system to help keep our patrons safe, as we do everyday. He’s almost 17 now and cancer free, praise God! Nice to help a little b...oy forget his ills, if even for just one day! In these days, with so many people in need, a heartwarming story can give us all hope. A 60 year old @metrolosangeles patron that we’ll call P, came upon #lasdtransitservices Deputies Brito (lf) and Luis, as he does almost everyday. P uses a wheelchair and does not have a home right now, but he is always upbeat, courteous, and helpful. Many times, Brito and Luis have crossed paths with P and offered him services, including meeting with our Transit Mental Evaluation Team to ...try and secure more permanent housing, but P always declines and says someone needs it more than me. On Thursday 3/18, Deputies Brito and Luis once again came upon P and asked how he was. He wasn’t his jovial self and told the deputies that the location where he stores his personal belongings had been pillaged and all of his items stolen. The deputies were heartbroken to see how this made P feel and the predicament that it put him in. They couldn’t stand by and do nothing. They received permission to leave their beat, went to the store, and purchased as much as they could to help replace the items P had taken from him. Even some clothing that he didn’t have, but was in dire need of. By the pictures, you can tell he was overjoyed and extremely grateful! Although @lasdtransit is an integral part of @metrolosangeles Shelter the Unsheltered program and P has chosen to not participate, the spirit of the program was on full display by the kindness and generosity of our field personnel. Thank you Deputies Brito and Luis, for going well above and beyond the call, and thank you P, for showing us that indomitable spirit that makes us all proud to be human beings!!! #humankindness #gometro #sheltertheunsheltered #wekeepyousafe #homelessoutreach #community #bettertogether #tomorrowwillbebetter

@lasdtransit is extremely saddened at the news of the passing of retired #lasdtransitservices K9 Sergeant Justin Walter. Sergeant Walter passed away on Dec. 20. The cause of his death has not been disclosed at this time. Sergeant Walter was a field deputy with @lasdtransit, before becoming a @transportationsecurity trained K9 handler. Along with his #trusted #k9 partner Folti, he later promoted to the rank of sergeant and remained at @lasdhq Transit Services Bureau as a K9 ...handler supervisor, due to his expertise and years of training. He’s pictured here proving transit security in #sanfrancisco at @superbowl50 . Unfortunately, he was forced to retire from the Department in 2019 due to his health. Sergeant Walter is survived by his immediate family, some of whom still serve on the Sheriff’s Department. Please pray for them during this most difficult time. We #mourn the loss of our brother and will always cherish the time we had with him and his K9 partners! #restinpeace dear friend! A message from Sheriff Alex Villanueva: "LASD attended the BOS meeting this morning to present the Truth Act Community Forum, which fulfilled the requirements a...s set out by SB54. We were also able to report the moratoriums on transfers to ICE, on civil detainers, I had implemented beginning in April 2020, and culminating in my making the moratorium permanent on August 3, 2020, thereby ending the voluntary transfer of inmates from LASD to ICE custody. We acknowledged the Supervisors support of my decision as included in their subsequent motion passed in September 2020. the county should enshrine the current Sheriff’s moratorium on transfers to immigration authorities absent a judicial warrant or judicial probable cause determination into County policy. As Sheriff, I am responsible for EVERYONE'S public safety, and I will not allow an entire segment of the population to be afraid to report crimes to law enforcement. We also ended LA County's practice of selling data on undocumented inmates, and permanently banned transfers to ICE. Special thanks to Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and SEIU Local 99 for helping us improve our policy regarding ICE and making these historical changes." MAX HUNTSMAN OMITS THE FACTS ONCE AGAIN October 5, 2020 Today, I learned of the latest Office of Inspector General (OIG) report. ... Conspicuously absent from the report is the fact the OIG had multiple opportunities to address the Banditos issue during the four years under my predecessor but chose to remain silent. This is because his job as a political appointee is to do whatever the Board instructs him to do. Mr. Huntsman now claims the past is the present, while willfully omitting all of the progress which has been made. His actions are purely politically driven and an attempt to undermine the reputation of the Department. The report alleges investigators did not conduct a thorough investigation into the Kennedy Hall deputy on deputy fight. This is false. Both criminal and administrative investigations were conducted where investigators interviewed over 70 involved parties and witnesses in the case. In addition, this case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) for their review and their office concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The facts are that immediately after taking office, I relieved the East Los Angeles Station captain of his command, overhauled the entire leadership of the station, and transferred 36 personnel. In February of 2020, I became the first and only sheriff to successfully implement a policy specifically addressing employee groups which violate the rights of other employees or members of the public. 3-01/050.83. Employee Groups which Violate Rights of Other Employees or Members of the Public (http://pars.lasd.org/Viewer/Manuals/10008/Content/14944) On August 13, 2020, at the conclusion of the Kennedy Hall fight between deputies investigation, I held a press conference to publish the results of the investigation for the public. Twenty-six deputies involved in that early morning fight were either suspended or terminated. As has become his pattern, Mr. Huntsman seems to have once again intentionally omitted facts which do not further his political agenda. @lacosheriff Alex Villanueva enjoys a laugh with @americanlegionpost283 Post Commander Jim Cragg yesterday as the Post provided a wonderful lunch for #lasdtransitservices, Compton, and Century Stations personnel, as a big thank you for not only coming to the aid of our deputies under attack, but also for the continued love and support for these heroes. We were so fortunate that our #herione and her family were able to stop by and spend a few moments with the First Lady of LA ...County and all the rest of us! Post Commander Cragg, @lasdtransit Captain Burcher, and Century Station Lieutenant Antuna presented her with cards, gifts, and donations. She was visibly overwhelmed by everything! Sheriff Villanueva presented the Ronald Reagan-Palisades Post with a thank you plaque on behalf of the Department. We’re all very thankful that our prayers are being answered and that our two injured partners continue to heal and recover! Thank you again to all, for the well wishes, prayers and support! #prayersforhealing #bettertogether #cantkeepusdown #lasdstrong #wellbeback

A message from Sheriff Allex Villanueva: As of this Tuesday September 29, 2020, the Board of Supervisors continued their campaign to defund the LASD. $105 milli...on additional dollars are being diverted to support criminal offender programs such as the Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) initiative. This is at the expense of patrol deputies who keep our families safe, detectives who investigate hundreds of cases, and custody resources that keep the community safe. @lacosheriff Alex Villanueva and @ladaoffice Jackie Lacey have announced the arrest of a suspect believed to be responsible for the heinous and unprovoked attack on our deputies. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty and the investigation is ongoing. However, how does our heroine feel about the arrest of this monster? See for yourself......... We do want to reiterate the gratitude that our heroes have for the massive outpouring of love and support for them! #justiceunderthelaw #lasdstrong #lasdtransitservices #wellbeback #policewoman @metrolosangeles @lasdhq

Jacquelyn Rodriguez (@iamjacquelyndiana) President of the @jackmorenbergfoundation stopped by on Saturday 9/26, with @thetacocartcatering in tow to feed all three shifts of the brave men and women who continue to keep @metrolosangeles patrons safe. This was Jacquelyn’s and her foundation’s way of saying thank you for all that these public servants have been though and for the continuing challenges ahead. As you can see, she also brought a chest full of cards and well wishes f...or our injured comrades which will certainly be delivered to them as they continue to convalesce and get their strength back to continue the mission. Thank you to all at the Jack Morenberg Foundation and indeed all of the community members and organizations who have done so much for us. We are blessed by your kindness! #lasdstrong #communitysupport #onenationundergod

11 year old Max Durfee and his 8 year old brother Carson decided this past weekend that they needed to do something to raise money to help the injured @lasdtransit Deputies that were attacked at a @metrolosangeles train station on Saturday 9/12. They came up with a clever idea of making craft sodas and selling them on the corner near their home. 2 days and several hundred customers later, they had surpassed their $300. goal and sold over $1100. worth of product.... Today, with the news cameras from @knbc4 and @abc7la rolling, they presented their donation directly to @lacosheriff. A grateful and frankly taken aback Sheriff Villanueva humbly accepted the hard earned donation and praised the boys and their parents for their generosity and civic mindedness. Keep it up boys. We have badges with your names on them someday! #civicduty #lasd #defendthepolice #weneverquit #bettertogether #communityengagement
