Great news! Santa Clara County’s No Wrong Door System is making access to vaccines as clear and as barrier free as possible. Healthcare providers, including the county health system, will vaccinate anyone over 65 regardless of where they receive their medical care. Book an appointment by visiting www.sccFreeVax.org or calling (408) 970-2000.

For the end of Halal Restaurant Week, I thought I would go back to Lados for lunch today. I had first visited this woman owned Pakastani-Indian Restaurant during the first two weeks of shelter-in-place (#12 on the Mayor’s Restaurant Project list). It is hidden away in northern Sunnyvale [115 Plaza Drive, near where Borregas meets Persian Drive]. I was happy to finally be able to try more of their menu. We had their Zinger Burger (Pakistani fried chicken in a bun with chees...e, lettuce and their special spicy zinger sauce), Lados Fries (Desi seasoned fries topped with house made sweet tamarind sauce and Ayesha’s secret sauce), and a basket of their crispy wings for lunch. It was all REALLY GOOD! The employees and owner are super friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Their business has been difficult during the pandemic (especially now that outdoor dining has closed). Please give them a try! I have continued monitoring the construction of our new Washington Park Swim Center during my morning runs. The work has progressed nicely during the pandemic (with only a short work stoppage in April). Pool tiling has been installed, and utilities for the buildings are almost complete. The new facility is scheduled to re-open in the first part of 2021! This is one of Sunnyvale’s Top-30 Projects, you can learn more here:... https://sunnyvale.ca.gov/about/summaries.htm Washington Park Swim Center: https://sunnyvale.ca.gov/news/displaynews.htm?NewsID=232& #movingforward #sunnyvale #washington #swimcenter See more

During the pandemic, I will be highlighting our Sunnyvale businesses that are still providing takeout and/or delivery. PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! Last week, I went to Delhiwala CHAAT [590 Old San Francisco Road, at the corner of Fair Oaks Avenue]. Multiple people have said that I should try this place, and I was glad to finally visit. Delhiwala Chaat started as a food truck and opened as a brick-and-mortar location in March of this year (although their food truc...k is still parked outside). It’s been a difficult time to start and run a business, and they even have an employee assistance program going. I had their Dahi Papdi Chaat (crispy whole wheat, [papdi] and thin gram flour noodles covered with yogurt and a variety of chutneys) and their Aloo Tikki Chaat with Chole (spiced fried potato patties, covered with chole, a spicy and hot North Indian chickpea curry). Both chaats were great. I loved the mix of sweet and spicy and textures with the dahi papdi chaat, and the aloo tikka was warm and spicy. They were perfect together. They have large variety of Indian vegetarian mains dishes and chaats (Indian snacks/street food). The service was friendly, and they have a few outdoor tables if you want to eat at the restaurant. Their hours are noon to 8:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. #shoplocal #sunnyvalestrong #inthistogether #delhiwala #chaat See my the previous 170+ reviewed restaurants at: http://larryklein.com/restaurant-project/ To see more Sunnyvale restaurants open for business, go to; https://www.facebook.com/groups/574818759790257/

Things are changing again. On Sunday evening (December 6th), Santa Clara County and by Tuesday almost every Bay Area County, will be in a restrictive shelter-in-place order. Your actions save lives! PLEASE wear your mask and practice safe social distancing. We will get through this. On Thursday, Governor Newsom announced that a new regional stay-at-home order in California based on a region’s available intensive care unit (ICU) capacity.... The governor then defined the state by five regions: Northern California, Southern California, the San Joaquin Valley, Bay Area and greater Sacramento. He said the Bay Area would reach the threshold by mid-December, and the rest a LOT earlier. Under the state stay-at-home order, Retail still will be allowed, but at max 20% capacity. Bars, wineries, personal-service businesses, hair salons and barbershops are to be CLOSED. Indoor and outdoor playgrounds, and indoor recreational facilities must be CLOSED Schools with waivers can stay open, along with critical infrastructure Restaurants will be limited to takeout and delivery service only (NO OUTDOOR DINING) Newsom also said ALL non-essential travel would be suspended. [The CDC had already called for people to cancel their holiday plans.] Even though our region is not yet below 15% ICU availability yet (although Santa Clara County is already close), multiple County Health Directors came together yesterday and announced that the writing is on the wall, and Bay Area counties would be moving to more restrictive measures sooner than prescribed by the state. Dr. Cody released the new order that goes into affect on Sunday night (and will last until January 4th). Yesterday, I celebrated my Jewish heritage with a Hanukkah meal provided by The Marvelous Matzah Experiment. It was a filling lunch of beef brisket, sweet potato latkes with sour cream and applesauce, and blintzes for dessert. The latkes were FANTASTIC! Here is a good article from the Mercury News on restaurants providing Hanukkah meals: https://www.mercurynews.com//8-bay-area-establishments-of/ #happyhanukkah #latkes

On Tuesday night, Sunnyvale Council approved the preferred concept for the Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center Project. So happy to finally see this design go forward. This is a great partnership of Sunnyvale, the Sunnyvale School District and the Fremont Union School District. Happy to see this project finally going forward. #lakewood #branchlibrary

THANK YOU to everyone in Sunnyvale who exercised their right to vote in the November 2020 Election. The counting has FINALLY completed, and it is confirmed that I **will** be Sunnyvale’s first directly-elected Mayor for the next four years starting in January. I am honored to continue serving our community. I am grateful for the vote of confidence, for the volunteers who helped out in so many ways, the endorsements, the financial support, the yard sign hosts, those who shar...ed e-mails and posts, walked with me to drop literature, made phone calls, and just provide words of encouragement when I needed it the most. It has been a difficult year for so many. And being Mayor during a pandemic has been a taxing job, so thanks for those who carried the baton for me when I needed it most. I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow Councilmembers and City Staff, and to welcoming our new district-elected Councilmembers to the team. I am hoping that we can have a big celebration next year where everyone can gather. I am honored to be a Sunnyvale resident and continue to represent you as your Mayor. I pledge to continue our community dialogue and work on improving our quality of life. There will be challenges on the road ahead, but we will weather this storm. Together we can create a better Sunnyvale! #larryformayor #sunnyvalemayor #thankyou #electionresults #fouryears #fourmoreyears

Please practice safe social distancing if going to parks, and children should sanitize before and after enjoying the playground. #staysafe #sunnyvalestrong
